Walking

When at my aunties , I went out everyday with her . We walked to her local shops , they were only a couple minutes of way. Now I'm home I've decided everyday I'm going to try and get out and go a little bit of waking . As I read that walking is good exercise .

It is good exercise......you dont have to go to the gym to flog yourself to death. I walk some days for 10-15 mins, just locally and not every day. You do what you feel comfortable with :)

Yes walking is a very good thing. Good for you!!

Since I became sick I started to walk daily (when possible) after approx 30 minutes after finished dinner. That serves two goals, better for the intestines ;-) and better for my legs.

I walk about 10 min, up to 15 min each day in our neighbourhood. Thankfully I am now able to do it because for almost a year because my feet got deformed and almost every bone started to hurt like hell I couldn't walk anymore.

Recently I got good customized orthotic insoles (first two pair "customized" insoles were expensive rubbish) and semi-orthopedic shoes* that help my feet roll of in every step so my joints and bones don't have to roll of.

Some problems it didn't solve like my foot drop but hey doctors need to do something too ;-)

Now I can walk 10 to 15 minutes without agony, I still have pain but I learned to live with it.

So keep walking but in the right shoes!

I bought two pair Xsensible Stretchwalkers, sporty model England dark blue and more fancy model Buckie sand suede. They are quite expensive but gave me back my mobility to walk 10-15 minutes without agonising pain.

👋👋👋👋 Patricia: am vvv much identifying with your reply (as usual). I now own 4 pairs of bespoke full foot orthotics....I got my first generation of orthotics when I was 21...am now 63 and on the 4th generation (😉Our feet change as we age)....I wouldn't be without them....I keep these pairs of orthotics in various types of footwear so I don't have to be fussing with moving them between...eg one pair is in my wellies, another in my scruffy trainers, another in my more presentable trainers. I only wear New Balance 996 trainers now cause they suit my crazy feet best 😆. The bespoke orthotics all come from Langer...and are vvv expensive, but I feel they are as important as my costly prescription varifocals spectacles...and I budget accordingly....seeing well as poss & walking/standing as comfortably as poss are my priority 😜

:-))

I had my first orthotic insoles when I was 4 I think. I used to walk with both of my feet inwards I've heard from my parents.

After that I changed them every X years, usually after 3 to 5 years. I was used to a new insole in a week and after that no pain anymore in my feet....until this dreadful disease struck me a few years ago...the pain stays...and becomes really bad after 15 min of walking.

I'm 41 now so I have worn insoles almost for the same time as you do ;-)

I have no clue from which brand they are (if they are a brand). They are custom made and glued from different materials and layers.

I googled New Balance 996 trainers, they look very nice and sporty and a bit similar to my shoes without the roll off aid. Do your trainers also have a very stiff sole?

My shoes are very expensive but totally agree with your reasoning, some things in life, like our health, are just more important than other things LOL.

YIKES: 4! I know I needed mine earlier...but not that much earlier...at least not needed obviously. It was my father's sister who had had bespoke orthotics all her life...I get my EDS from that side of the family mainly...just goes to show how long these wonderful podiatry orthotic prescriptions have existed...she was in her late 60s when she marched (limped) me off to her podiatrist in Philadelphia...approx 1974...that first pair was made of solid resin, based on a mould of my feet...I still have this resin pair...you should see the expression on podiatrists' faces when I show them these: 😳

What a pair you & i are 😂 I've not yet met someone who has been through quite this much of our sort of version of this 😌

The worst phase of my version of complex feet etc pain set in severely in my early 40s...I spent approx 10 years getting steadily worse...somewhat similar to you, each revision of orthotic prescription helped somewhat, until I got to that 15 min of weight bearing limitation point approx 2005...there followed 7 years until a full & convincing multilayered diagnosis was finally achieved - despite the chief orthosurgeon at my top university hospital telling to just stay in a wheelchair 😡...I'd had that several times over the decades from top consultants & discovered I needn't obey them so long as I persevered in my mission for constructive diagnosis & treatment...you know the rest

My foot drop is noticeable but I've adapted to it, and my orthotics help me compensate...

Langers are probably the best Brit brand & are also based on moulds, then custom made from glued layers. I have metatarsal domes included now.

I forget: do you have conditions in your metatarsals' joints: bursitis, synovitis, capsulitis, mortons neuromas?

Am going to find a Brit Xsensible dealer! I've spent a fortune trying shoe types...my new balance 996s preoccupation started last year....they give me just the right relative proportions of firmness & flexibility...which is so so individual, no? One of the big probs is my daily cycle of simultaneous raynauds & erythromelalgia which means burning & freezing simultaneously so shoes are like wearing hot coals. For several years, langer embedded my orthotics into classic Birkenstocks which have saved my life...again hugely expensive but invaluable...does your orthotic firm do this?

I could swap stories & tips with you for HOURS Patricia 🤗

Thanks so much for all the sharing 👏👏👏👏

Good night

🍀🍀🍀🍀

Hey Barnclown,

Sorry for my late reaction. Been busy with health, family and work issues (never a dull moment in my life :-0 ;-).

Yes the solid epoxy insoles were my first insoles too. Mine were orange coloured. That nostalgic feeling when talking about old insoles...LOL

Your chief orthosurgeon at the top university hospital told you just stay in a wheelchair 😡...it is so easy to say if it is about other people... I had the same kind of remark when my chronic ilieitis and pancreas malfunction wasn't recognized and I had little poopy accidents all day long (sounds like Bob Ross' happy accidents but I was not happy at all) and a young docter at a top university hospital told me just to live with it and wear a diaper! Not really what you want to hear when you are thirty something and they were not planning on doing tests or trying medicin to solve this problem. Thankfully it was solved about a year later by a good doctor at other top university hospital in another country...

You asked if I have conditions in my metatarsals' joints: bursitis, synovitis, capsulitis, mortons neuromas?

I have tendonitis at my achilles heels, plantar fasciitis and probably ankle bursitis. I have very tender metatarsals' joints in my feet especially around my second, third and fourth metatarsal.

Me too could swap stories & tips for hours with you! :-))

Have a nice and hopefully sunny (but not too sunny ;-) Sunday!

Did you enjoy your stay at your Auntie's? Walking is great. I used to run but there's no way I can do that now, with lupus and osteoarthritis. So my exercise is Pilates - which I love and walking whenever I can. If I do have energy (ha ha) I do have membership to my local leisure centre and I like the bikes and cross trainer and walking on the treadmill. Nothing too vigorous!

I walk, too, and any movement is good rather than sitting for too long. My body usually tells me when it is time to move or when I should rest a while.
