I've seen mentioned here, many times, the use of mouthwash. I try to avoid using it since the last one I've used, stained my teeth and it was hell at the dentist to get rid of that.
May I ask which mouthwash you're using and whether the brand you're using stains?

I have to use mouthwash with the inhalers I use for COPD. The medication can cause thrush, and I have to rinse after using the inhalers.
I use a store brand here in the U.S. It is:
Dollar General brand
Tartar control plus
Antiseptic mouthwash
The flavor is iceburg blue, it is a light blue color. It has not stains my teeth.

Good question! Gengigel was advised by my periodontist last year. Only use it when I have active soft tissue inflammation, so I can sometimes go up to a week without needing it. It's helping me greatly: I need the help so much that I try not to think about stuff like staining...tomorrow I have my 3 monthly hygenist appt...when I had my 6 monthly dentist check last week she mentioned that I get significant staining...I know my hygenist works hard on cleaning me up, so I'll ask her of she thinks gengigel contributes.. I tried lots over the years: none helped much, eg biotene, corsodyl etc

Thank you, if you could please ask, that would be great. I'm using a family remedy - gargle with cold cammomile tea, which is antiseptic. I worry that shop-bought mouthwashes are too harsh on the delicate balance in the oral cavity and they could cause thrush, on top of staining.
Me too: all my life I stuck to salt water rinses etc etc. But my sjogrens & EDS issues started getting a lot worse over the past 20 years...and I became desperate...the home remedies just weren't enough. Haven't tried chamomile though: will give it a go, thanks
Gengigel apparently works because it includes Q10. It doesn't suit everyone, but my goodness does it help me. Otherwise I continue to get the potent topical oral steroid adcortyl in orabase abroad via GP prescription (it's no longer available in the UK). On one count I'm very lucky: despite all my horrible chronic oral issues, have never had oral thrush...seems incredible to me, but it's true
Ooh, Q10 - that's a good one then!
So, today my hygenist told me gengigel doesn't stain teeth, & she confirmed Q10 is a main ingredient and that it isn't harsh. My london/Cambridge periodontist apparently has lots of us relying on gengigel! It's vvv popular in our region, as a result. Gengigel is quite expensive, but it really works for me
She says you can get Q10 toothpaste from shops like Holland & Barrett, but that these should be used alongside fluoride toothpastes - especially if you have early onset gum recession related to immune dysfunction &/or connective tissue disorders eg EDS. She also confirmed that chamomile is a great favourite on the continent for treating infections topically, but of course there is no scientific proof or explanation why this seems to help.
I've seen mentions of what is called "Magic Mouthwash," and been wondering if I could get some for my Sjogrens. In the US it is made in compounding pharmacies. I don't know if you have them in the UK. Apparently there are many formulations.

I would really like to find one that doesnt stain, had a trial med in my late teens that damaged the outer of my teeth so everything sticks to them or stains,but also contains no fluoride as quite a few induce asthma attacks or allergic reaction in me.
Dentist has a real challenge ensuring what he uses is effie safe ☺ .

At the moment I'm using cold camomile tea because it is antiseptic but since POTS hit me be been drying out, so I know I need to be a lot more careful with the oral hygiene from now on.
I don't use mouthwash but I know that coffee and tea stain my teeth. Using an electric toothbrush has helped me a LOT!! I'm replying because I want to also hear what other folks recommend.
I use aloedent available from tesco and Amazon. Fluoride free, doesn't stain, and the inflam in my mouth has settled right down. The pain in my feet has gone to since I've been using. Also use the toothpaste but only the stuff without echinacea. It contains slow Vera and tea tree oil.

I use Flouriguard mouthwash as it was recommended by my dentist. It is non staining and is a good tooth strengthener. You rinse with it at a time when you don't brush, that's important so I do this after lunch.
How are you getting on with those POTS tests and treatment?. Better I hope.X
I use Superdrugs on brand alcohol free mouthwash along with Sensodyne pronamel toothpaste. This combination removed the staining Corsodyl mouthwash caused.
And is there one with zero alcohol for my poor sensitive mouth.

Hi Purpletop, I use Listerine Advanced Defence mouthwash for gum treatment. I very often wake up in the mornings with breath like a gorilla's armpit! ( Or is it 6 gorilla's armpits? Not too sure! Lol) I think I may have a problem with gingivitis at the moment. Of course Listerine also do other mouthwashes too. None of which cause staining. I have a bit of a downside to using it at the moment, it seems to make my tongue a little sore when using but this soon goes away afterwards.
I use Difflam...lovely bluey turquoise and its never stained my teeth...its available on prescript or over the counter
I used to get thrush from a steroid asthma spray, made me unwell..saw a lovely locum gp who gave me a spacer which helped, but its only since the steroid stopped working and they put me on a new spray that the thrush has gone..hope you find one that suits you xx

I use Sarakan mouthwash as it's very gentle and the usual commercial varieties really sting my mouth and tongue and I don't need it to be made any more sore! I haven't found that it stains at all but I must admit I do forget to use it every day. I also use sea-salt washes sometimes too. I also have Sjogrens btw. sarakan.co.uk/mouthwash.ashx for your info!
