Unfotunately yes......my daughter started to call me old grannie.....i am 49....lol

Lost 8 back teeth top and bottom, 2 incisers on bottom and top gap has become larger on front two teeth.

Gums bleed so brush with v soft toothbrush and use very mild toothpaste, if at all.

But my daughter still says I look wonderful.....bless. xxx

A little white lie makes all the difference tk your confidence when you have lupus.

So whatever your teeth are doing...... you still look amazing.

Take care. .. Mandy 😆xx

Thank you that's lovely to say!  I have lost 2 teeth last year and 1 has just cracked in half tonight.  I'm really good with my oral hygiene so didn't understand it.  I bet you look great! X

My dentist has prescribed me toothpaste as my teeth started crumbling, just had my 1st crown. Ask your dentist for help. He should be the best person for advice

Yes, I had my teeth removed because my orthodontist said they were poisoning me due to their breaking and crumbling. I figured ok I am 45 I can look just as good with dentures. Sorry to say, my gag reflexes are so bad, I could never keep them in my mouth more than 1 minute. I can eat most anything which is unusual, but appearance sake I look hideous..at least to me.

Oh dear dar58. I am so sorry. Have you told your dentist? Is it not possible to shape or shorten the palettes? Please dont feel so upset. You can get a resolution. Gird up your loins and go back and ask. Surely dentistry is a satisfaction guarenteed service isnt it? All you can do is ask. After all, its not like going for filling or extraction.

Please try.

Best wishes

Honestly footy girl its not as bad as that. Hey..we came on this earth without teeth, so I leave the earth when the time comes the way i came into it. The only thing I missed not being able to eat was peanuts...but .......while in Florida I ate my fill of yummy cajun boiled peanuts..oh so good....Now just to find some of those cans in New England and I'd be in my glory.  Love this support group. Its so reassuring when you see others going through the same thing ....your not alone in it any more.

Hi,

My teeth are really bad too and I didn't realise till reading all the posts that it could be the lupus causing it.  My gums recede too and whenever my dentist does any work my gums bleed too.  She has now prescribed me a toothpaste to use.

I've had 3 crowns and a bridge put in, and my front tooth is starting to crack too.

Hi tooth problems for me include cracking, fillings falling out, bleeding and receding gums. Dentist recommended  using soft toothbrush,  sensodyne toothpaste and when gums v sore and bleeding use a warm salt water mouth rinse, a natural antiseptic. Also suggested not using corsodyl too much as stains don't come off easily, too much brushing just makes gums bleed more. Sticky toffee anyone? ;-) xx

Do you have a dry mouth?  Sjogrens can lead to dental caries and tooth loss even if you have good oral hygiene.

I never knew Lupus could affect your teeth! I've had lupus for 35years, have lost a lot of teeth and have very bad receding lower gums.

What I don't understand is why, over the years have my dentists not mentioned the link?

Neither did I. Awaiting surgery for front two teeth, upper, to be removed to leave none at top. I don't think it is understood enough by doctors, so dentist down the list. I have had cracking, which I found unusual and alarming but my lovely dentist did not comment. I shall ensure she reads up.

Thank you Esw4 for a question which has opened the floodgates. Well done. Hope our answers help

Love

Hey NanaFifi,  I too have had lupus for over 35 years, have never lost a tooth, never broke a tooth unless I was reckless and clench like you wouldn't believe.  I do have receding gums though which started with my primary teeth  and I didn't have lupus at that point...  I would say for me lupus isn't the issue but my own hygiene is very good and has always been. I don't even bleed unless I get a mouth ulcer from a flare.  I worked for a Dentist for 20 years and saw very few people in the chair that had lupus over those years.  It could be that Dentist just don't have enough experience working with Lupus patients to know if teeth are effected by lupus. Sjogerns has been more of an issue for teeth than Lupus has been from my experience in the dental  field. Good luck with your mouth.

I believe I've read on here that there is information  about Lupus and oral hygiene, it would be worth the read for anyone that is experiencing mouth problems.    On another note some people are just unfortunate with their genetic make up and have tooth problems no matter how hard they try to keep a clean mouth.  My Dental teacher always had cavities and her brother who never brushed his teeth had none.  Whose to say it is lupus.

I've suffered for years. The dentist kept patching them up but agreed the repeating infections wasn't worth the risk so I had the worse 8 removed before I started my immunosuppressants. Odd to get used to but worth it for the lack of pain, bleeding, sensitivity and infection.

Yes just had a perfectly healthy tooth break in half, have receding gums, bad staining,  mouth sores,  enlarged taste buds and thinning teeth, have always suffered with teeth even though I'm ocd about dental hygiene due to phobia of the dentist caused by terrible NHS dentistry when I was young . I also have coeliac and was told that would affect my teeth and all the ladies on my mum's side of the family lost their teeth by late 20's due to supposed pioria? So always think myself lucky to have at least half my teeth at 40 x

Hi I have been wondering about this myself.  I lost one tooth and another is ready to go, both back teeth.  I have been having toothache recently following a filling and tooth sensitivity which maybe giving me headaches.  I been back to the dentist who cannot see any tooth problems and is not sure where to go to ie pull the tooth or do root canal.

I will say that I regularly get my teeth cleaned now (every three months) to help with plague and this has helped with bleeding gums (I don't have them) and I use the little brushes as well in addition to a good electric toothbrush.  I thought I was on top of it till this last filling and the shot she gave me so I do not know which was worse, the filling or the shot was ok till then..  all my best maggielee

Yes. My teeth are so sensitive. Eating anything out of the fridge is such a fiasco, even yogurt hurts when it's cold. A few years ago I was diagnosed with gingivitis. Still have all my teeth though.
