I was wondering whether anyone knows how long you should wait to hear something following a GP referral for a private consult? Any information would be great. Thanks
Private consultation: I was wondering whether... - LUPUS UK
Private consultation
Hi. It should be very quick. Most likely within a week, 2 at the most. An NHS referral should only take 3 weeks according to my GP. I guess it depends on how promptly the referral left the GP practice.
Good luck - the waiting is so hard when you need help.
On my gp's advice (given years ago) I don't wait to hear something back after a referral for a private consultation. I simply phone the consultant's private secretary number a few days after my gp's referral will have arrived on her desk. When I get the secretary, I make an appt for the first possible date. Usually that date is in a few weeks.
Naturally referral for NHS consultations usually means much more waiting. But: I've begun to be more proactive about NHS appts too: if I don't hear anything wishing 3 weeks I do ring the clinic & request a date
Hope you'll let us know how things go🍀
Have followed up today. The referral hadn't been received so being resent today! Hope I will get an appointment shortly.
Glad you followed it up. I had a 3 week wait from bloods confirming it was lupus with GP, to seeing a Condultant Rheumatologist privately. best wishes.
Chased up again
Surgery still hadn't sent referral but very nice secretary booked my appointment anyway so seeing consultant a week Saturday. Fingers crossed they have some ideas for me!
