I have sle and I always feel unwell for about 3 weeks after having my flu jab. Is this a normal reaction?

hi flossy 1, I had a flue jab some years ago and it made me ill for over a month. I have never had another one since. I think some people with lupus can tolerate the flue jab better than others.

Hi flossy

I too am usually I'll after a flu jab but still have it each year as GP says flu would be even worse!. He also has said being ill is a good sign our immune systems are working properly. Hope that's helped and good luck when you have yours. X

I had the swine flu vaccine 2 or3 years ago on its own, it brought on a flare. Now u get the flu and the swine flu vaccine together ,so I won't have them together. I take 500mg vitamin c. And in winter itake C. Zinc which Coates the lining of the throat and prevents those horrid bugs from developing. But that's my choice, and I must say my husband and I did not even have a cold last winter. Best wishes elfie

Thank you all. I'm going to have it again this year and see how I feel. I'm always optimistic that this year will be different. I hope so but if not I won't have it again.

Hi

I have felt off colour a few times I have had the flu injection. I had mine beginning of last week and as usual I felt increased aches pains and tiredness with slightly raised temp but I also get this if I don't have it and for much longer during flu injection season and when new injections are introduced and we are doing the catch ups. I'm sure i never used to react like this before I got wonderful connective tissue disease. Recently I'm sure that I've reacted to the Men B and ACWY injections the older kids and uni students are getting. I give loads of injections, it's one of my main roles and I'm sure I react more than colleagues.

And no one else seems to have problems after just giving new injections like I seem to have.

It is a good sign I'm told that your temp increases and with it you feel off but it's expected to only last around 48 hrs, mine lasts longer. I just keep taking paracetamol and try to keep cool.

I would definitely say it's worth seeing how you go. Flu can lead to flares and even pneumonia and feeling worse for a possible few weeks is better than risking flu with long term conditions

The docs says it won't affect you. I've felt ill for about three weeks after getting it each year but dread to think how I'd feel if I got flu.
