Hi new loop, I saw rheumy yesterday and had depo medrone jab. (Big steroid dose.) did you feel ok after ? I became very disorientated about an hour later. actually thought I was going to faint. It all passed after a couple of hours and I was fine. 24 hours on and no sign of improvement yet, but I'm sure it takes a couple of days to kick in. I have to continue with oral prednisolone, which did surprise me. How about you ?

Sorry, i didn't answer your question! i seem to have had particularly bad brain fog with my latest flare so put it down to that but i did feel light headed and lacked in coordination.

Hi I have had a few over the years and the last two strangely enough within minutes felt like I was going to pass out. They did work all but one which if not given correctly won't work. It took a couple of days but well worth it. Hang on in there. Xx

I had same, depo jab, i was only diagnosed last oct, they started me on hydroxycloroquine but had very bad stomach with it so stopped taking, had flare start about 3 wks ago which was the worst yet. My Dr is very good and wants to do more specific tests before deciding on what meds to prescribe but told me that the depo should get me "well" and give me approx 6 wks relief.

have to say i find this site a god send as its the only place i can find people who understand.

fingers crossed the depo works for both of us

Depo is for contraception not lupus.

No its the depo medrol steroid not the contraceptive depo!

I had the depo jab last summer. It took a couple of weeks to kick in but was great when it did. I was rushing around doing all sorts and had a great holiday in Scotland with quite a bit of walking. I think it only lasted about 4 weeks though. I asked if I could have another in November but they put me on Prednisolone instead, which is great while I'm taking it, but as I taper off I feel rough again. Hope you get some relief from it :0)

Yes, it helps short term. Over time, lupus comes under control with immunosuppressive medications and lifestyle changes.

Hi newloop,

I had a steroid injection last Friday as I've been flaring really badly for the last 3 weeks. Within 2 days I felt much better but a week on and I'm still struggling but nowhere near as bad as before the injection. This is my third injection in the last year and the one that's given me the most relief. I hope you start to feel better soon. Xxx

Hi there! I had two of these and both did a great job in relieving inflammation for about 8 weeks. My butt cheek was a bit sore for a few days and I was angry for no reason for about a week after. Also the last one I got messed up my periods so I was spotting for about a month. Now I'm having a bad flare and I will be asking my rheumy for another jab... They do have side effects but they are fast and effective so in some cases it is definitely worth having one...

I had injections in my shoulders as I was in so much pain, I could not sleep nor lift my arms and was amazed that within a few minutes I had so much pain relief. This lasted for about four months but has now worn off so might request more. Had a very PAINFUL jab in my hip at the same time but this was of no help, so trial and error and also had no negative side effects at all.. Best wishes to all.

I've had two steroid injections in my shoulder. The first wasn't effective but rheumy decided to do the next one in a slightly different place. Had virtually instant relief but within 24 hours felt dreadful, pain was worse, headache and generally felt like I had a bad case of flu but luckily the rheumy had said it could feel worse temporarily so I wasn't surprised. After a few days I felt much better and the pain reduction lasted for quite a few months. The pain is back but nowhere near as bad as before the injection.

Hi Newloop

I have Steroid injections twice a year and find they are a Godsend, I have been having them for years and have almost come to look forward to having them as they give me so much relief from pain! Ok I am in quite a lot of discomfort for a couple of weeks directly after having them done but then for a good four to five months the pain relief is great as I have an allergy to most pain killers so can only take pain killers that make me high and I find it hard to carry on everyday life in that state so these injections have been wonderful.

I sincerely hope they work as well for you, good luck

Madmagz x
