Kidney pain is on your side going to your back and higher up your body than you think. Whenever I have had this, these are usually the site of pain for me. When I say higher up I mean not at hip level in my experience. Wish you well as it is a horrible pain to have.

Your kidneys are located at the back of the body, right under the lower ribs. Lupus nephritis typically does not cause kidney pain. Kidney pain might be caused by an infection or a kidney stone. Pleurisy (inflammation of the lining of the lungs) and pulled muscles are often mistaken for kidney pain.

Signs of lupus nephritis include foaming urine which is caused by protein excretion, a sudden abdomenal weight gain or feeling of bloating, and/or swelling of the feet, ankles and lower legs. If you have these symptoms, call your doctor ASAP.

My grandmother always said your kidneys are higher, but the pain from your kidneys will be in the lower part of your back. Apparently even in her day the doctors got it wrong. She told me not to listen to them, that the pain would be lower, and if I had it, that it was serious. I guess most people drink cranberry juice, that is what I do, and I also use the herb uva ursi. It has saved my life, I'm sure of it.
