Does the doctors lab carry out exactly the same test as my dermatologist did for antiphospholipid antibodies with the same diagnostic levels

Hello Linmur

Test do vary from lab to lab. And can give very different readings. The variance can be in the method of testing or the amount of tests used to determine any one aspect. For example you GP may ask for a liver function test which can mean anything from 1 to 7 specific assays. A test for inflammation might be one of 3 tests or any combination of these. And within the these tests there can be subdivisions of the marker involved.

You also have to account for the calibration of the machinery which in theory is always set the same, but....

I am a patient at Guy's and St.Ts' A full work up once involved 24 vials and more recently 13. That is the price of exactitude.

Thank you for your time and reply, have thought that I will take doctors test and see what outcome is, thing is I have been ill for so long with no doctor listening to me but putting me to a counsellor for anxiety. If not happy with that test I will phone the

Dermatologist and pay for test with him. Had 14 tests this last time paid privately costing approx £1500 of which I paid £369. Just want an answer.
