I always have a reaction, within about an hour I start experiencing flu symptoms and will be in bed for a few weeks. I also then soon after start catching colds. In 2011 and 2012 I decided not to have the vaccination as felt so ill could not face the side effects. I am practically housebound so do not come into contact with many people and family / friends are told not to visit if they are ill, so for 2 years I have not had a cold. However, this year will be different as in WRAG and will have to go to Job Centres etc, cannot afford to catch the flu regardless how ill the vaccination makes me.

Same as ceceliac10, have the jab every year and no adverse effects. I would imagine with COPD the jab is essential, take medical advice.

In case you're interested, we're having a similar conversation over on the Vasculitis page, here :

This very useful, thank you. I was due to visit one of my friends tomorrow and she's just emailed me to say her little girl (3 yo) has been vaccinated last Thursday. I've now cancelled tomorrow and will tell her about the 14 days period. But as one of the Vasculitis forum participants said, it is tricky to protect against children in supermarkets etc. Unless we all wear gloves and masks!

Had mine last week. No problems as usual.

I have a flu jab every year done at work. I'm on 2 lots of immune suppressants to keep lupus and rejection off my kidney transplant. I have no problems with the jab.

I normally have the fly jab every year but my surgery seems to be giving it later and later last year was near end of October by which time I was to poorly to have it the same the next two times I was either down with chest infection or sinus infection by now we were in December so never ended up having it as begin of January I was admitted to hospital and diagnosed with a large brain tumour end of January I had the operation to remove it so doing ok now still under Nero unit as there is a tiny chance another one may be developing should no in a few weeks.

in the mean time my GP has said I am to have the flu jab as soon as possible and I also have to have the meningitis vaccine which I have never had before has any one else here had the meningitis vaccine and if so was there any side affects

I have never had the meningitis vaccine, stopped the flu and pneumonia in 2010 after a five day hospital stay with pneumonia. I had the pneumonia vaccine in 2009 and still got it. I haven't had either in three seasons and feel much better without. I am anxious to hear how others fared with the meningitis vaccine. I won't say I will never start them again, but don't plan to if a healthy diet, increasing movement as body permits and other fitness trials permit my health to continue improving and build up resistance naturally

Thanks so much for all your input, very useful.

RichardE, great link, very interesting and new to me, thank you

Best wishes to all of you

The flu vaccine is not a live vaccine so is perfectly safe for us lupies and so is perfectly safe for us and in fact is recommended that we have it so carry on doing so.
