We have always been told it mainly depends on if you are a bleeder. The general idea is you can do most all activities and even surgeries with a count over 50k unless you are a bleeder and then it would depend on what your hemo. says.

As usual with anything ITP there is no definite answer. The best advice is to discuss your individual situation with your specialist. I was told by my specialist To avoid any contact sport with a platelet count of less than 50 . Another thing to bear in mind with any travel or holiday is to check with your travel insurer before departure whether or not you are covered with ITP. You certainly need to advise your travel insurer. Good advice regarding travel and holidays is available on the ITP Support Association website at itpsupport.org.uk . Also look at the website regarding sports by looking under the heading ITP in teenagers .

Hope all this helps.

Best wishes

Anthony
