ITP isn't hereditary so it is unlikely that many here would have had genetic counselling. I had it once for a certain form of cancer and it took the form of making a family tree marked with people's cancer diagnoses if any. I found it pretty useless really because I could have done that myself and as nobody else that I knew of had had that sort of cancer it was not helpful. I'm sure for you it will be different.

ITP is a diagnoses of exclusion and nobody knows whether familial ITP exists. Still there is a possibility of an interplay between a susceptible gene and some environmental factor but it is not going to make a difference either in treatment or course of ur disease. Do not be unnecessarily concerned of passing this problem to ur children.

Familial thrombocytopenia exists but surely it isn't then ITP?

I dont know about genetist reason.my daughter bruises excessively but she has relatively mild itp compared to some, not severe enough to explain the bruising she is experiencing. I am disabled, but even though i have anaemia, dont have itp. my daughter gets a lot worse when on a period, she goes really white, dizzy, all her joints ache, swell and she gets discoluration. I expect a lot of people on here are all different and sounds like people get affected by this.a lot on treatment, its all new to me,i haves always bruised easy, but not like my daughter.there seems to be a lot about this condition and things possibly connected to it . its good to hear peoples ideas and views.i hope you are getting good treatment anfd help, its a bit of a worry. a lot of things go through my head,i do feel maybe its partly do to with how i am. its very up and down at the moment.at least she is getting checked, which I suppose is the norm,to rule out anything.she has had a big growth spurt over the past year,so a lot of changes have happened.one minute they are little girls, the next young adults. well that is the norm LOL.
