I have just been diagnosed as having a urine infection. Do other ITPers suffer with this or am I just unlucky?

Hi vamp, I take penicillin every day since my splenectomy so was surprised that I got the infection. You never know if some small ailment may be something that other peope have so there could be a link to ITP. I think in this case there isnt a link. I am on some antibiotics to get rid of the infection and they are working. NickyD

hi my daughter was diagnosed with ITP in April this year and since then has had 3 urine infections, doctors have not said any link but starting to wonder. She was diagnosed last week with a UTI and then her platelets dropped to 4 from 160, so she has been back in the hospital. Hope this helps.

Hi lindylou45 I hope your daughter's count goes up soon. It could be that ITP can cause stress, which can cause you to be run down and tired, which may open you up to more infections. How quickly did her platelets drop from 4 to 160?

They can go up just as quickly. Finers crossed.

I am sure it is totally unrelated to ITP.

I did and so now I drink a ton of cranberry juice and that has really helped along with water.

I now drink cranberry juice every day and have not had an infection for a long time.
