salmonella
This is a very interesting question and one which I think should be direted to Professor John Hunter at Addenbrooks who is undertaking the food intolerance study for the itp support group. I suggest you email the support group and ask them to pass this on to him.
thanks sailor i will try this kind regards salmagal
I am conviced that a bout of really bad food poisoning (campylerbacta) a few years ago bought my ITP on.
Hi cab68 did you have a gap between food poisoning and ITP both hubbie and i had ibs after salmonella then autoimmune diseases
Hi Salmagal. Sorry for the delay in replying, I don't come on here that often. I had the food poisoning around 2000 I think, but was not diagnosed with ITP until last year. HOWEVER, I had never had a blood test until last year and had what I thought were freckles on my feet for years and years (I now know they are not freckles since they disappeared when I was on steroids!). So, I think I must have had ITP for years without knowing it.
My consultant said that there is a theory that a really bad infection which messes up the immune system could cause ITP. As I was so ill with the food poisoning (in bed for 2 weeks) I do think it could have triggered my ITP.
