Glad you feel able to rant, and glad it helps, we are all in this together whether we are an itp sufferer or parent to an itp sufferer. Its good to know we have someone to share our worries. :-)

I so agree. AND we get great information from our fellow/sister sufferers.

I most definitely agree, earlier this week I noticed increased fatigue to the point of exhaustion and yesterday I learned my count was 10K, the lowest in two years. As I’ve said before, I DO NOT function well at this level. I’m extremely irritable ( PMS) on steroids, inability not to think clearly and frustrated by my lack of social graces when interacting with others. I truly am not fit to around others and this contributes to my depression and sense of self worth which then has a negative impact on my immune system, it’s a vicious cycle and I don’t know how to break it.(:

I also found that point in the process very annoying. As you say, I was not fit to be around. I found that I had not patience with others and a very short temper. Also people around me could not understand what was going on even when my doctor explained that it was an effect of the drugs etc. All was very frustrating. But as I eventually got off prednisone it slowly got much better.

Hi RobertSp, I’ve never been on prednisone so I can’ t blame my behavior on meds. As you know, platelets are involved in the transport system of serotonin (neurotransmitter). Serotonin is bellieved to help regulate mood and social behavior, the lower my platelets the lower my serotonin and the more irritated and depressed I become. Antidepressants are not recommended for ITP patients as they interfere with platelet function and lower counts even more. I am currently doing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) which is as effective as antidepressants after six months of therapy. Hopefully it will help control my emotions. Be well:)

Thank you. I did not know about the serotonin connection. That is very interesting.
