Has anyone been prescribed Imuran for ITP? What are the side effects? Can you work given it suppresses your immune system?

I was on Imuran for lupus, and developed a severe allergic reaction to it, Stevens-Johnson syndrome. I was working while taking it and was catching every bug that went around. Although, I cannot say for sure whether it was the Imuran in that sense, or just the fact that I was so ill from the lupus.

Any immunosuppressive therapy will lower your resistance. If you are able, stay away from big crowds during flu season'; wash your hands religiously after going out, and get a flu vaccine and Pneumovax, unless your doctor suggests something different. I've been immunosuppressed so long, that friends and family just don't visit me when they are coming down with something. Ask your doc what he thinks. My doctor came right out and told me not to be in large crowds, and BTW I had to stop working. Offices are the worst places to catch viruses, etc. I changed careers and now work from home, and knock on wood, have not been sick so far. I wish you well on Imuran, hopefully it will help the ITP.

Thanks so much. I am on disability but if I returned it would be in a large open office environment
