Hi again gypsynurse. Sorry did not read this question before I answered other. If your not a bleeder, get back there. I have had ITP for 20+ years, average count 10 and apart from treatment and the one bad bleed, not missed a days work. I travel all over the place, here and abroad although I am careful to make sure they have good medical services where I go. I have no idea where you live, but the ITP Support Association can provide excellent advice and also has a list of centers of excellence where they really know about ITP. Good luck.

I know this is the opposite to what you ate asking. But I was just wondering what benefits you get. I left my job to have a baby just before itp diagnosis. So get no sick pay. I cant go back my old job because of risk and itp. Now pregnant again. It would be helpful to get some money until I can go back to work.

I am not sure yet, I am sure there is some short term disability available until I wean off off the prednisone, but just not sure.

I don't really think that ITP is a reason to be off sick, unless of course there is serious bleeding and hospitalisation is necessary. For every day ITP, with counts of whatever level, I've had 1 and 2 many times, I just go to work as normal. I do get more tired when my counts are low but I don't see that as a reason to go off sick.

so, you even worked while weaning off the high dose of steroids? I am so exhausted, and seem like I am in a fog, I wonder about my productivity and safety. thanks Camdengirl

CamdenGirl is absolutely right as always. Unless you are a bleeder or have a dangerous occupation, ITP is no excuse for being off work.

I had time off work when I was on high doses of prednisolone, as, like you, I felt disorientated and confused and I lacked concentration. I was also terrified of getting an infection while my immune system was compromised. I don't think that there can be a hard and fast rule as everyone has different responses to their medication. I felt much better as my dose came down and have been back at work for a year now. I hope you feel well enough soon to return to work Gypsynurse as it will help you to feel like a normal person again. Good luck xxx
