Hello All,

Is there any cure for SCA2 ( spino cerebral ataxia) and Huntington disease. My mother in law is dealing with it and she has been bedridden from last 4 years. We have tried our best to see every possible neurologist in the town but things are going south as days are passing.

Since we don't have much knowledge about the Huntington disease is very rare. It happens to 1 per million.

All we could do is to have physical therapy and counseling but it's not working.

She has lost control over her motor functions and if we leave her for sometime. She falls on the floor and get injured . Her speech is slurry and very little control over her expressions. Now we could only understand 40% of what she says.

Days are really hard for the family. If anyone has a clue about it please share your thoughts.

Thank you.

Unfortunately there is not a cure for SCA 2 at the present moment. Supportive therapies such as physiotherapy and speech therapy can be very helpful. An occupational therapist will be useful to assess the need for items such as walking aids or adaptations to the home. There are also medications that can be taken for muscle cramps. It is important to see a neurologist, who will monitor the condition on a regular basis. There is information on SCA2 on ataxia.org.uk/faqs/spinocer....
