Hi All,

Has anyone tried wreck journals, it was a hype last year and I normally try out things once the hype has died down because I don't follow trends, more go my own way, Im going to head to Waterstones in my lunch break and buy one and try it out, It has gotten me really excited to do something different and will make me try new things (When I get home later today I will post an update of my bush as it has progressed nicely thus far) and hopefully it will give me something to do when (like Saturday) Im feeling low

I have never heard of them - what are they and are they as destructive as they sound?

For anyone who's ever wished to, but had trouble starting, keeping, or finishing a journal or sketchbook comes Wreck This Journal, an illustrated book that features a subversive collection of prompts, asking readers to muster up their best mistake- and mess-making abilities to fill the pages of the book (and destroy them). Acclaimed illustrator Keri Smith encourages journalers to engage in "destructive" acts-poking holes through pages, adding photos and defacing them, painting with coffee, and more-in order to experience the true creative process. Readers discover a new way of art and journal making-and new ways to escape the fear of the blank page and fully engage in the creative process

On each page it asks you to do something like chew the page, take the book in the shower with you,

Sounds like fun, but this also begs the question, are you likely to get bored of the destruction, chewing, coffee marks or showering - in which case this book is self defeating - if you are just following instructions you might as well get a dot to dot book. I would suggest that you get an alternative like a journal where you decide how to deface it as opposed to someone else.

There are times when my creatively leaves me but I am itching for something to do and you never know I might decide to do the opposite of what it says and I want something I can go crazy with and feel like Im breaking the rules with out actually breaking the rules of society

Ooh, you little rebel - I think society has too many rules and wouldn't miss a few, possibly do the opposite to the instruction, or just what you feel like (turn over too many pages and meditate on the effects of global warming on navel fluff - who knows what these are and, it may be worth documenting - now that's how you wreck a journal - Enjoy yourself and don't be told by other people how to do it)
