Bowel problems

Does anyone have any bowel difficulties after a TBI?

If so what medication etc

My daughter developed a problem with her bowels/bladder after her brain tumour.

She now takes meds for the bladder problem but has found that she can generally control the bowel problem herself by what she eats.

Thank you for replying. My son has to use 3 sachets a day of a fybrogel type medication (2 years now) and I have been trying to get him weaned off but to no avail.

I asked for senokot when I was in the hospital, they'd see-sawed between giving me antidiahorreals and the like but I found one senokot a night over a period of time, once I was eating properly and they'd stopped feeding me by peg worked to regulate everything. Took about a month but sorted it out gently, no horrific stomach pains like they were giving me.xx

Thank you Kirk. This has been over 2-3 years and we started with senokot and find the sachets work the best so far. We have a really good diet but nothing helps - the bloating wakes him up at night and as one know that leads to other problems.

Movecol. My son has this every other day now. He got impacted so had a massive dose to start with and just takes one every other day now.has done for years. He has a good diet too but his waves don't wave properly!

I sometimes use it to counteract the effects of my pain medication.

Thank you . My son is on movicol - I was wondering if there was some type of massage or something that could correct the problem without the sachets of movicol!

I have had a lot of constipation problems, and was on Movicol for years. I also had an awful lot of problems during my running. It hasn't gone away yet, although it is loads better. I haven't really blamed my brain injury!

James is on movicol and I put it down to TBI. He was a fit 25 yr old when someone punched him outside a pub. 3 yrs later and still at home but doing really well in a new career which we set up ( renovation of property) mentally amazing progress - I am just determined to get him ready to move out and take his place in the world as he was doing before.

Don't ever loose hope as you will 'get there' - the brain is amazing - sometimes takes a bit longer than you expect and not always the goals you first set. Stay strong ...... Love from a Mother.

can i ask how the TBI impacts on the bowel as my husband has also suffered with stomach problems since his could it be from all the drugs given to the patient while in a coma ?

I don't think it was anything to do with the drugs but maybe the link from the brain to the bowel not connecting or somehow needs a push start - if you know what I mean. Meantime he has 3 sachets of movicol a day. Sorry I can't help.
