l am 77 years of age and began my gynae journey in November 2021. My first consultant did not really take me seriously when l told him at 75 l was having heavy post menopause bleeds, more like a haemorrhage than a normal period bleed, along with persistent constipation, which l now know can be a pointer to cancer, which was ignored. Eventually he got me into hospital in December 2022 when he did a partial hysterectomy and removed a 5 inch ovarian cyst.
Following this l was called in to meet a different gynae team who told me there were cancer traces in the samples they had taken from my womb lining, and that l was being transferred to a new consultant.
So 6 weeks after the first operation l was again in hospital to have the hysterectomy completed and a stomach wash. It was then they found the tumour embedded in my endo.
Following this, 3 weeks ago l had a follow up appointment to inform me l now need to have brachytherapy to try to ensure all traces of cancer may be eradicated. This is to be one treatment of internal radio with l shot per hour for 20 hours in one session.
If my first consultant had taken me seriously this would all have been completed a year ago.
My advice to other patients, make your case firmly but kindly and if necessary ask to be transferred to a different team.
