Hello HMThai. There is an article in the Lancet called the Eagle Study which shows that it can be beneficial for a person with Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma to have clear lens replacement as it opens the drainage system even more. I have attached the link for you to look at. It maybe something you could discuss with your glaucoma consultant at your next visit. Even when this procedure is done, drops are sometimes still needed to help maintain the eye pressure but the amount of drops needed may be reduced.

I hope you find the article helpful.

Good morning from Thailand Trish,

Thank you kindly for sending me the link,I shall definitely read it later! My Glaucoma Specialist did suggest this but my vision is 20/20 and am very lucky to have good eye sight which has prevented me from having a lens replacement it is not necessary, and you rightfully say might reduce the eye drops.... but there are no guarantees for a drop free life....I am on another website of eye community, there was once a mention of Laser Iridoplasty which targets the angle and widens it!.. But here I don't know what the technical problems with my eye is...?..I have an appointment in a few weeks here with a Eye Doctor ...... meantime I will keep in touch....

I have some drop reducing bottles being shipped from USA as I write....

Did you know only 20% of the eye drop is needed to reduce/ IOP?...the other 80,%is waste and side effects are horrible,ok we are old so we may miss a little but you see what I mean....I would like to help all here to insert eye drops correctly.... There are ways to do this, also prevention of dry eyes...

Good day!

Good Morning HMThai. The lens replacement can be done even if the person has no signs of cataracts. Its the widening of the drainage system which is the important thing. This is why it is often recommended for people with narrow angles. The iridoplasty is a surgical procedure where a small triangular part of the iris is removed. This is not a common procedure. It is doen during eye surgery called a Trabeculectomy. The iridotomy does exactly the same thing and is much easier to do.
