With Fibro, sleep quality is affected and people with Fibro do not get enough deep, restorative sleep. This means that even if you sleep 12 hours straight, you may not be refreshed, and so will continue to be tired.

If your sleep quality is okay, then after sleeping for 8 hours, you should wake up refreshed. If this isn't happening, talk to your doctors about targeting your sleep quality. Some doctors just ask "are you sleeping?" without making it clear that sleep quality is the important thing, not just quantity.

i havnt woke up refreshed for yrs.....im having bad time with it at the moment. driving me nuts..i wake up singing some song in me head ive heard the day before. and up and down all night long. was still awake at 5 this morn but then went back bed and slept till 12.00 dinner time.....could have gone back again at 1.00 as cudnt keep my eyes open.... i also have about 4 days in a row sleeping. also have m.e.....and a headache every day that makes my eyes ache...the lights hurt very much. i alternate between sleep in the night [ not a deep sleep ] and a nap in the day a couple of times or not sleeping at all and just totaly exusted to even make a brew...its always one or the other....sick of it... take care xx

You're not the only one, so don't worry, I'm 18 and I've recently been diagnosed, it's all so overwhelming! The tiredness is just beyond ridiculous, no matter how much I sleep, I always feel like I haven't slept in years! But I find that when I go back to bed for an hour or so, I feel worse when I wake up, so I do my absolute best to fight the tiredness and try to stay awake (sometimes you literally have no choice but to sleep!) Although most of the time it's unavoidable going back to bed, it is probably better to try as hard as you can to get up and do something to help keep you awake, as if your body is so used to going back to bed every afternoon, the worse it gets! Not sure if you're taking medication, but if not, try asking your GP for tablets called amitriptyline, these help relax your muscles and you're supposed to take them at least 3 hours before you go to sleep, this helps you sleep easier at night :) Hope this has helped you! X
