ask your dr to refer you occupational therapy see if they can help with bath chair

as Webby says ask Dr to put you in touch because if you have Dr back up your more likely to get what you need! You can have wet rooms too i see them alll the time and a family member has had one too.

I bought a shower and took bath out last year when i was so very very severe as any pressure on hands etc was herendous, so we got a shower and had it fitted! unfortunately am still waiting the rest of bathroom to be done :-/ its like a building site .. at time i never thought of help with working and still am and thought it would only be temporarly but its not unfortunately. I fall out of it too.

It may be done through social services too? am not 100%

hope you get one make your calls today! xxxxxxx

I am waiting for social services to come to see me as I can't bath or shower. If you are bad enough they can give you funding for personal care but yes they also get showers and bath lifts sorted for you which I never knew til Gp said.

I have just been given a blow up bath chair by OT and it is a life saver. With this one I can actualy get under the very hot water I need to help my pains.Felt a bit like sitting on a bouncy castle at first but have got the hang of balancing myself.

Try and persevere with OT as they can offer you all kinds of things to make life easier for you.

I was given one of these through OT but couldn't get on with it so still can't get in and out of bath without a real struggle. I have a VERY long saga attached to this subject (going on nearly 15 years) but I'm not going to upset myself by going into it today. Have a raging tooth infection, hardly slept last night from the pain and my dentist is on holiday :( Been given some antibiotics this morning and hopefully they'll help.

I didn`t go through the doctors for this hun.I am 58yrs old and eventualy had enough of everything and put myself in the hands of Adult social services.

What they have done for me is unbelievable.

I would speak to you G.P if I was you as getting help has to start somewhere and they are probably your best bet.

Hope you get it sorted hun let me know how you go with it all

We paid over £5000 for a hydro bath with a drop down side due to husbands needs. It was a great bath but the seals constantly leaked. Found out younwere not supposed to clean the bath with any bathroom cleaners as it damaged to seal...it's not the best thing we have ever done! Be very warynif you go down the private route.

In many areas you can self refer to social services. Call up your local council and ask to speak to someone in the Adult Disabilities Team and they will be able to tell you how it works in your area.

An OT will be able to assess you in your own home. Steps, handrails and bathboards are all low cost solutions. I used to use a bath board so I could sit on that to get in the bath, then lower myself into the water from the bath board and then repeat in reverse to get out.

my GP referred me to OT also it is right you can refer yourself to adult social services. Ihave the blow up bath chair. The OT had a hand rail type thing put near my front door cosits a high step and ive fell a few times she also got me a grabber to pick things of the floor making life easier and a perching stool for the kitchen I also have two hand rails for going upstairs and a grab rail at the top of my stairs. Take what help you can get.
