Every night I have the same aim, get through the night without painkillers. And about 20% - 25% of the time I achieve that aim (I was painkiller free last night :-) ).

Not tonight though, I have a pain in the neck :-( , ohh well needs must and all that

((((( sweet dreams and gentle hugs everyone )))))

Hi Julie,I have to agree with you,it is a shame that we become dependant on drugs, but hey,if they help,I'm gonna take them.

My daughter is 27,and going through a really rough period with possible system lupus/ms/vassculitis,and on a normal day I think she has to take 50 tablets plus,I think that's without any pain meds. Bless her, I have got to a stage now where I feel,if they ate going to help me even a little,I look at it as if ,oh well! I could get run over tommorrow!and no longer be here,so why worry about having to take tablets.

I must say for the first time in years i can sleep a lot better at night,a lot less back, hips, neck, knee ache, thanks to 75mg pregabalin 3 times a day.

Hope you manage to get the much needed relief from your pain.

Sandy.

Neck pain is the worst for me. I had an neck trauma, a whiplash, and my neck started giving me problems slowly until it was unbearable. It's still the most painfull part of my body and a very delicate one.

How I can empathise with you. I develloped Cervical Spondulosis about 10 years ago, it did used to bother me a bit and I periodically had a numb face.(which was what led to the diognosis in the first place!) But in Dec 2010 I too had a car accident which has left me with added Whiplash. Currently my neck is so bad it is affecting my arms & wrists. There just seems no respite from the pain in my neck & shoulders. My consultant wants to do an MRI scan and then possibly cortizone injections.IN MY NECK!!!!!! that seems a bit too scary for me! But must admit I have reached the stage where I will try anything to get some relief from the pain and some proper sleep!

Forgot to say, I'm also the same, I'm always trying to avoid taking painkillers and sometimes I wonder if I'm not making my life a bit harder because due to this sometimes I have to put with so much pain until they make effect because I refused to take them on time. But, all and all, I think if it wasn't for that I would probbaly take even more.

Sometimes it's impossible to avoid them and doing it would bring probably even worse consequences. Make sure you know how you are doing, the better you know yourself the better you can judge when and how much you may need and avoid to take more.

I am exactly the same. Best part of the day is before I nod off to sleep.

The pain starts at base of skull and comes around jaw and down to my shoulder then my eye feels swollen (doesn't look swollen but a bit red and blurred). Are these the symptoms others have? Every morning swear I,ve had enough and can't take it any more. Drag myself out of bed and yet again another day starts, although wobbly. GP's don't want to know. So back to my daily di-hydro. Try to go witout the pain-killers but always have to give in in the end. Still they wouldn't have been invented if they were not there to help you I say. Get so fed up wioth it every day so. Last week it was IBS all week. These pains really do travel around your body, popping up in a different place whenever it feels like and there's nothing you can do about it. Only relief I get is when I,m asleep.

Thanks folks, looks like we are unanimous - Fibro is a pain in the neck (bum bum as Basil Brush would say).

The pains got worse last night from the icy cold drill that was boring into my skull to my toes which felt as though they had been run over by a tank ... thank goodness the pain killers took most of it away and let me sleep :-)

Hi all I have no choice when it comes to pain med if I don't take any I'm literaly screaming with the pain, so I slap on a durogesic fentanyl/h patch every 3 days and hope it will take care of it if it doesn't take care of it completely I have to top up with aural morphine and hope that combo works if it don't I'm snookered, cos there's nothing else I've already taken quinine, methocarbamol, colpamine, betahistine, lansoprazole, amitriptyline, carbamazepine, & naproxen, last dose of that little cocktail is at 10pm so its cross my fingers and hope . Big gentle hugs to all . Sithy ps and just to make things worse I have a very painful boil on my chest hoping husban can get back from taking his dad to hospital in time as if we didn't have enough to cope with lif has thrown more at us his dad had a triple bypass 17 or 18 years ago now he's developed a leaking valve so he's in for tests today lumbar puncture not nice and bloods and god knows what else so I'm at home waiting and worried and his mum is at her house worrying wish life was easier some times, well good luck and gentle hugs all round, Sithy

i seem to be the exception although i don't like taking strong painkillers they give me a better quality of live , allowing me to be able to help my Mum and Mum in law as well as my Grandchildren , I do admit i am one of the lucky ones and do not seem as ill as a lot of people on here until i have a flare up x

I too have tried to go without pain relief BUT suffered badly for it....took days to get back on a fairly even keel...as I'm in pain most of the time even with medication.

soft hugs to you all

I have cervical spondylosis and the usual fibro pain around the neck and shoulders. I can't take much more than paracetamol because I've become very sensitive to side effects.

I have acupuncture and Bio resonance monthly and find I can deal with my month now. I used to have to take paracetamol 4 times a day. I rarely take it at all now.

Skenar has also been really good.

I've just started using a far infrared bio mat.... together all thee treatments are giving me some real relief.
