Further to starting Amitryptilne for 6 days......

I'm monitoring how this is effecting me and I am definately having vivid nightmares about survival through the night. I reduced from 10mg to 5mg a few days ago from 10mg to 5mg as it felt so strong. The pain is less, my motivation has reduced. My throat seems to feel more wide open (numb). The anxiety has reduced. The burning sensations have increased. My pelvic area is affected. I hope you don't mind me going into such detail, I feel very low this morning and want to discuss my experiences on starting this. Iwould like your comments if possible. Thank you.

From having no dreams to vivid disturbing dreams feels weird doesn't it (exhausting in it's own right). Thanks.

My doctor always encouraged me to give it a good 2-3 weeks to try new meds. Unless the side effects became unbearable. Ask your doctor if the vivid dreams/nightmares usually diminish after x period of time. It may be only a week or two until your body adjusts to the dosage before things settle down.

Has your doctor talked to you about Cymbalta? it's an anti depressant that somehow helps fibro pain. It works for me (if not the whole 12 hours it is supposed to) at 60mg/day. It's part of the magic cocktail of drugs that make my pain mostly tolerable.

Regarding sexual hmm functions. Many of these medications will significantly decrease your libido. So it's ok if you are feeling that. Otherwise, you really need to make sure you bring it up with your doctor. Write things down even and bring a note with you to make sure you remember to bring up what you want to with your doc.

My doctor will not allow me to take amitriptyline with Cymbalta because of the risk of serotonin syndrome. I miss the amitriptyline because it really helped me sleep.

Thanks for your response Shannon. I've made a note, this is going to take some time and is stressful. Reflections - oh the sun is just trying to break through.

Always happy to help other people just learning about their Fibro. I too did exactly what you have. Worried and stressed over not really knowing about or understanding what the heck was going on with my health. It was frightening and so so stressful! When I finally got the diagnosis at least I could then learn about what was going on. I am still learning :)

If I could help lessen the stress and anguish even for only one person by sharing my experience as I went through in learning about my Fibro, it's worth it!

Hello I take Amitriptiline and have no side effects I am also on anti depressants too, all I can suggest is keep with it for a little longer and I do so hope it helps you. I too am still confused by the fibromyalgia, some days I am really good, some days I have as though i have been run over by a steam roller, do other people suffer these same symptoms

in reply to Jemimah

Hi Jemimah, Sounds similar to me. It is confusing and when I have a good day (although it is always there) I feel it's gone away, then there's the flare ups and worsening of symptoms like one's health has gone haywire. Boom and bust. I am going to learn to pace - as overdo it on good days causing relapses to follow. Learning what my limitations are each day - 2 - 3 hours on a good day. Trying to manage it. I'm going to continue with the Amitriptiline to get well needed sleep and see how it goes - I intend not to take them after a month. Thank you.

Dear Reflections, thank you for replying to me, I am glad there is someone out there who does the same as me, ie on a good day I go mad and forget what I have got, go mad and over do it then pay for it, as i love gardening but like you must learn to pace myself.

Have you tried meditation at all, I am slowly learning how to do it and it does seem to help me to relax mind and body, I wish you well and thanks again, take care ok :)

in reply to Jemimah

Thank Jemimah. Not overdoing it is really important and knowing when not to go over that line. I know when my energy suddenly drains (which can happen at any time) or the next days afterwards. It's like walking a tightrope. I'm focussing on triggers also, and am very sensitive to the weather.

Meditation is helpful at chosen times - for me afternoons are better - mornings are out of the question. We need to take so much care of our bodies and minds, and get to know what works for us, gently. Take Care on your journey.

Hi just reading your post reminded me to take my amitriptyline!! Fybro fog again! I take it 10mg (when I remember )about 6-7 pm and it does help me sleep but as you said the vivid dreams are not always nice. I have woken myself up jumping out me bed and singing!! But I do sleep and that's a positive.
