Mindfulness!!!!

Mindfulness provides a simple and powerful route for getting ourselves unstuck, back in touch with our own wisdom and vitality... The most important point is to be really yourself and not try to become anything that you are not already....being in touch with your deepest nature, and letting it flow out of you unimpeded.

I found this excellent book on Mindfulness - amazon.co.uk/Mindfulness-pr.... When I attanded the Pain Clinic they used mindfulness techniques to help us deal with our pain - it really does have effect!

The book has been very helpful in just being in the moment. The first few chapters i kept having 'Aha' moments, and 'yes, that's me'. I find sticking to the meditations every day a bit difficult as sometimes I can't even sit in one place without pain or simply cannot still my mind enough. I do practice it when I'm walking, paying attention to the breeze, birds, everything around me and trying to stay with the moment. It works when I'm gardening too. I suppose we all have to find our own way with it, but there is a feeling of being freed up mentally. Smiley (keep forgetting how to do a smiley!) x

If I cam in mega pain I cannot meditate as it just hurts way too much, however on the better days I can do it, however prefer to have an lovely setting such as the beach so I can listen to the waves or the mountains.

I am looking forward to nexk week, we are going to The Alps and I will try and meditate there!!

Hi Christine, it is very hard and I believe it takes time to manage to ever begin to be in the present moment especillay when you are suffering from pain.

One suggestion would be to get a meditation CD, use that as assistance and it would talk you through how to do a meditation. A lot of people start off with a body scan, which is basically lying down and going through each part of your body, recognising it and being at one with your breathing. Try breathing into that part of your body. When your mind wanders, don't fight it, let the thought pass and bring yourself back to your breathing and concentrate on that.

I would also suggest being in a calming environment, somewhere that you like? You can do it in bed, in your garden with the sun on your face, by the sea, on top of a mountain.

There are many meditations sessions around run by qualified teachers. I would take a little look on google, ask in your Drs. If you have a pain clinic nearby they may have contacts, maybe phone some tai chi teachers as they teach Qi Gong which is practice of aligning breath, movement, and awareness for exercise, healing, and meditation.

Good luck xx
