Fibrojude..

I wake up feeling my eyelids heavy and yes slow, i also get very dry eyes, they thought at one point i had sjogrens syndrome ontop of my fibro, which is an auto immune condition dry eyes, nose, mouth, anywhere where there is moisture.

I tested negative for that, they cant say why im dry, , ask your GP to sent you to opthamology to have the moistur elevels checked in your eyes, i have vials of eye lubrication, and it soothes and helps alot

hi Fibrojude , i suffer with unbearable fibro pain behind my right eye and have very dry eyes which i didnt realise i had until i saw my optician, He said fm effects all the muscles in the body and i think there are 3 behind our eyes , he prescribed systane for the dryness so an optician is also a good place to visit

dry eyes and a dry mouth/throat (no matter how much you drink) are one of the myriad symptoms of this illness, but because eyes can be very sensitive due to thier dryness many eye drops are not suitable, you should ask you doctor or optition what they would recommend, also the weird muscle movement/twitching is again a symptom of our illness - i get muscle twitches in the lower lid of my right eye alot but there is not really anything you can do about that, sorry.

it may be an idea to research our illness on wikipedia to find out more about what symptoms you can expect to encounter, when i did i burst into tears because all the little niggling things i thought were just me turned out to be down to my illness, to know that i wasn't being a hypochondriac that they were real problems has made such a difference in my life.

good luck

Do any of you use amitriptyline? I have dry eyes in the morning and was led to believe it was a side effect of the tablets. I had to stop wearing contact lenses a few years ago because of it. However I had lazer treatment on my eyes to see better around 3 years ago and although they said it wouldn't make them any dryer, I would be sensitive for longer. Well, 3 yeras later I still get a sharp dry-eye pain when I open my eyes in the morning - I keep trying to drop the amitriptyline to see if it helps, but keep having to go back to it.

It seems all the sites say dry eye is a common symptom of FMS, but I was beginning to wonder if - given all the tablets we end up on - if the dryness isn't a side effect of all the meds, and it's just a coincidence??Who knows (most likely the docs:-)

Hi Floozy. Pains at the back of the eyes are horrid though, but sometimes in the morning my sharp dry eye pain seems to radiate all round the eyeball. Did the systane help those type of pain too? I too get affected by the wrong type of drop makig my eyes more sore, so try to avoid if I can, but it would be useful to know what drops seem the "safest"

Ladysian - I find magnesium helps with muscle twitches - even the small ones round the eyes respond, as they are the first ones to start twitching, as a warning that I'm not getting enough minerals or sleep. I get mine from holland and barratt (UK) but I use Citrate rather than Oxide, as they absorb better. There seems to be a lot of evidence supporting it on the web. Muscle twitches in the eye are a right nuisance!

Hi, I'm going through the same thing.

As well as the dry, gritty eyes, I have a very dry throat and my skin also appears to be dry.

I've had an eye test because I had laser eye surgery 5 years ago and thought this could be the cause, apparently it can but I am also 50 years old and so 'at the wrong age' When will I ever be at the right age! (lol) Optician just said buy eye drops you have dry eyes. I have an appointment at my Dr's this week so I might get to the bottom of it one way or another. I'll pass on any advice/help. Much love x

Hello Barnsleychop,

I wondered if I may show you the link below out of interest as I believe it can be a condition which can occur secondary to Fibro. Obviously I am not a Doctor and you should only read this as information in case any symptoms may be similar.

nhs.uk/Conditions/Sjogrens-...

However, I must also mention I get very dry eyes & a gritty feeling with difficulty in opening them each morning but do not have a dry mouth or trouble swallowing food regularly. So, there is a possibility that the symptoms are unrelated as I get a sore throat when fatigued which many people say they do too.

I have Gel Tears prescribed by the GP which helps a little, it is definitely a weird feeling in the morning and takes a while for them to open, it's only been happening this year which is my 8th year with Fibro. I am going to mention it to the Rheumatologist in my next appointment.

I hope this helps & look forward to others comments to see if members experience the same.

Best Wishes

Emma :)
