Tomorrow Hubby and me are having a baking day Friday,

Not sure how that's going to turn out but If I don't get all Mary Berry on him we should have a good day, ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

I would recommend Amazon groceries to any body I ordered a load of stuff for our day,

As a child did anyone get to lick the bowl, ? nom nom nom,๐Ÿ˜‹ Living with my Nan a lot we always baked together,

I can't decide what 2 to do,

Can you fabulous peeps help me choose,

Either

1/Mocha victoria sponge 2/crunchy oat meal biscuits

3/Vanilla cresents (bisc) 4/ cinnamon bisc

5/ Strawberry shortcake 6/ Glazed banana spice loaf

7/ Creamy banana pie 8/ Banana lemon layer cake

9/ Lardy cake (no one seems to sell up north)

It's been a while but I'll sit on the stool.

Trying to get a bit of what I used to enjoy back, As the warmer weather comes ever closer, I need to see what's happened out back and what I want the garden fella to be,

Hi Debsdelight72Can't help.you with that decision, maybe let hubby choose one and you the other.

Good to do a bit of what makes you happy.

I am a Northerner and do not know what lardy cake is. I may ask Dr Google.

Have a lovely day.

Take care

Gigi

I'm a Yorkshire exile in the Midlands. I haven't tried lardy cake but in the bakery window it looks like a brown lump, covered in grease with currants stuck to it.

Awwww you make it sounds so nice, Haha Not suitable for vegans

Thanks for your reply anyway,

Lardy cake is not an actual cake neither is it healthy, A little bit of something to enjoy

It's made with bread flour full of currants and sultanas and of course LARD amongst other things,Then poured over a sugar lard combo so a sweet glazed crispy texture,

Best served warm or cold with a nice brew or coffee ๐Ÿ˜Š

I think you should both pick a favourite each and do that. Have fun and treasure each otherโ€™s company.

You're making me hungry! It all sounds delicious. I've not heard of banana lemon layer cake before - you must send a photo of you decide to make that! I made a Kent cake yesterday, it's a bit like a creamed victoria sponge with coconut and grated chocolate in it. Have fun! I'm fairly north, near Huddersfield. ๐Ÿ˜Š

100% Lardy cake, if you canโ€™t buy it locally and you like it youโ€™re really missing out on something special! Iโ€™m lucky because we have a couple of really good local small bakeries who make some amazingly delicious Lardy cakes, they both do different fruit mixes as well which is nice for a change. My current favourite is chopped apricot dates and cinnamon, itโ€™s seriously yummy!

You are making me hungry at the thought of lardy cake. I haven't seen it for sale in years. I think you should chose one cake and some biscuits and as cinnamon is my favourite I selfishly vote for them. Whatever you chose enjoy your baking. It was so thing I was really looking forward to in retirement but rarely do. There is just the two of us and as my husband is a diabetic I shouldn't encourage him to eat cake, well to be honest he needs no encouragement. He can't see biscuits without eatingthe lot.Ive got some cooking apples so if I can summons the energy I ight do a tray bake tomorrow.x

Ooh! Mocha sponge and cinnamon biscuits ๐Ÿ˜‹ I would make a ๐Ÿท of myself with both of those (and scrape the bowls and lick the spoons!)

I love a bit of baking, but donโ€™t do it often because of the mental & physical energy it takes to plan, make & clean up after.

Top tip though - if you donโ€™t have an electric mixer, a potato masher is excellent for creaming butter and sugar together with less effort than just a wooden spoon ๐Ÿ˜‚

Enjoy! Xxx

Wow, thanks for the tip - potato masher - whyever didn't I think of that?

Purple_Badgers profile image

It felt almost illegal at the time ๐Ÿ˜‚ If potato mashers could talk, would it be made up to finally be used for something that wasnโ€™t mash ๐Ÿ˜€, or would it be mad at being misappropriated??๐Ÿ˜ก

I'm sure that a potato masher would be over the moon ๐ŸŒ› at being used for something other than mashing! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Thanking you Purple-Badgers,

Lovely tip, I do have an electric mixer but I'll give Hubby the potato masher๐Ÿ˜Š

I might let him have the bowl and then the cat loves it so much you've no chance of having a peace full bowl, She's 19 now, Sleeps even longer than she used to, So nearing the time,

She's deaf as a post, But if she smells the baking? She is suddenly back as a kitten๐Ÿ˜บ

7 and 8 sound amazing. Cant bake, that was my husbands love. Widowed now so no more fresh baked goods for me. Great on the waistline but terrible for depression. Its fabulous that you and your hubby are doing it together. Enjoy every minute, if it works out or not. ๐Ÿ’œ let us all know how things go. Maybe a picture of the final item to salivate over lolol have a great day.
