Statin and very bad calf pain in right leg

My husband took 10mg Atorvastatin for the first time 2 weeks ago. then a couple of days ago be got terrible calf cramp feeling in right leg which only eases with painkillers and rest. He is hobbling around.

He saw the doc today who said it could be a clot and has referred him for a scan.

He is normally active, full of energy, not unduly overweight. He was put on it because his cholesterol was 4.8.

My question is..anyone get this reaction from starting a statin?

hi yes, I took them, no disrespect, but doctors know statins don’t work for every one, had a nightmare with them, caused me more problems than they are worth, I stopped taking them, and told the doctors, so many different side effects with statins.

Try and help your husband through diet, for his cholesterol, kiwis are good, plus blackberries, green teas herbal meds, I’m a skinny little runt lol, and mine was slightly raised, but I do it through diet now, having to force myself to eat.

I’ve always got leg pain, so not sure, caused me pain in lower back, backed my bowel up, and I’m ibs-d, and joints in fingers hurt, does your hub, have a small lump, or any reddish, purple colour where the pain is?

No All the doc said about his calf was that one was 3cm wider than the other 😳

ahh, same with my husband, but he had a tint of purple, it may not be a clot, so try not too worry too much, and if it is, he will be put on blood thinners, and after about 6 weeks, maybe longer, it will disperse, but he may have to stay on blood thinners.

Good luck, let me know how he gets on, and you.

Take care. X

Hi, because this is a fibromyalgia support group and I see you have been a member here since 2022?

Sadly no one here is medicaly qualified to answer your question on your husbands health problem.

I am glad to read your GP is dealing with it and wish him all the best.

Sorry don't understand your reply " Fight club"?

In the beginning of the film "Fight Club" Edward Norton attends random support groups totally unrelated to his issues (Gen X angst and dissatisfaction with his life).

Ihow rude. I do not have issues

Thank you for the explanation. Still can't see the reason people join groups they have no association with that groups issues or something even similar.

Apologies for intruding on this group..don't use it much and it confuses me a bit plus I am visually impaired I am not expecting a medically qualified answer. I thought this forum was about peet support. Hhow wrong I was.

Hi there, sorry your feeling upset. But I think asking if you suffered with fibro was a valid question.

And explaining no one here is medicaly qualified to answer your random question not fibro related was the right response.

I would have thought it would have made more sense and been more helpful to you if you had ask your question on a more appropriate forum who could have given you a better answer to your question.

Aching muscles are a very common reaction to starting Statins…it is surprising that his doctor didn’t suggest he changed to a different type of statin…but maybe that will happen when the scan hopefully turns out all clear.
