Took a very long time to get diagnosed, put on Painkillers initially didn’t work so had to get off them! Then put on Gabapentin and later on Pregabalin which I’m still on but reducing due to horrendous weight gain! On a low dose Citilopram to keep my head together.
I’ve had CBT, Hypnotherapy and Talking therapy which all helped me; I’m now in a better state of mind and living my life as best I can, I’m 100% determined not to let it stop me doing the things I want to - eventually sometimes 🤔

Hi sir! Nice to see you here among the Fibromyalgia lot. I have fibromyalgia. I'm learning about relaxation. Seriously! It's an actual skill apparently 😀👋🐕
Hi Tisme72Welcome to the group though I bet like all of us you wish you didn't need it. There is a wealth of information on here about Fibro and benefits and support. We are all a lovely bunch trying to get through each day as well and as happily as we can. If you ever need to rant you can have a rant on here, we all need it sometimes.
It's great to hear that you are at times able to cope with it. I take Citalopram as I found for me it helped with my moods. I came of gabapentin as it did me no good and like you put weight on. I now try and do half an hour swimming twice a week. It helps me a lot but then I don't work. How people manage work and children with this condition is beyond me. My heart goes out to them all.
Hi Darrell, Welcome to the group and nice to meet you. Don't worry about it, that's what the group is for, we sound out, query, support, give advice and information too. Were a good caring bunch of people.
Like you I have issues with Gabapentin too. I've been on it for at least 7 years now, but reducing it with the help of the pain clinic. My mobility isn't good, so this added to the weight gain as I started off as a size 10 when I started with it. Now I'm a size 14, but I don't care.
The worst issue for me was when I suddenly became a Celiac and it really messed with my head. I couldn't afford the diet and my gp wouldn't and certainly didn't help me.
I researched by lowering each medication I took and found 2 things. Firstly I'm of the 4% group of people who become Coleliac due to Gabapentin. Secondly, just by reducing it by 1 tablet I wasn't a Celiac anymore.
The useless gp wouldn't listen, didn't believe me, wouldn't look at the evidence, and refused to help me reduce the use if Gabapentin. I promised the fool that I won't be on it much longer as they cannot make me take it. Ge didn't even care!
Luckily for me I had a previously booked appointment with a Locum Gp who was so alarmed that he referred me to The Pain Clinic. I saw 2 people, one of whom worked with medication as the useless Gp wouldn't help with years of pain that wasn't my arthritis but was actually Fibromyalgia. Anyway, he was very interested in what I said, asked for the research details & called me back 2 days later stating what I said was true & was astounded and disgusted by my Gp. He told me to complain and leave the surgery, which I did. As I was on the maximum dose of the Gabapentin I'm reducing by 1 tablet every 3 months which has been so helpful. I've lost 7lbs so far with zero exercises as I've been ill a few times, hospitalised x2, had that 100 day flu along with a virus, and spleen issues, too. You can tell my immune system is bad by now cant you?🫣😂
