Got results from my bloods on Monday,

I don't understand anything, I need folic acid- was already on it, need more apparently, I thought that folic acid was for pregnant woman and it's being put in bread,

Vitamin D- I have very little- I think that's because I don't go outside enough?

Cholesterol- Extremely high -?? Not a clue, something about my heart?

I have already had a mini stroke (it came up on a MRI, Don't know when from)

Have an appointment to see GP on 19th Feb, So surely It's not important or an emergency??

Can anyone enlighten me please?

ok vi d does reduce during winter and therefore might be advised to have bit d supplements tabs to boost you as low vitbd can make you feel unwell. I have to be checked regularly due to my meds as well.

folic acid not just for pregnancy again I had to take it with one of me medications too.

Cholesterol has to be checked so if high say 5.7 or more discussion with GP Will cover this from diet or statins again I had to go on this due to medications.

So it’s good that you are booked in and your GP will discuss your tests. On my NHS app when test results Come in you can click the link and read what the test means

Where did all this info come from.?

Are you on prescription folic acid of 5 mg per day or just what you can buy over the counter.? You cannot buy 5 mg without a prescription so have a look at the dose you’re taking & if it’s sufficient for your needs.

If your cholesterol is outside the normal limits, you should speak to your doctor about some treatment.

Ditto your Vit D levels.

Sorry not to be of much help. Except to say…l Do keep that GP appointment on19 Feb.

The info was the receptionist at the Docs, I presume reading off the computer, I was taking Folic acid 5mg out of my dosset box on Mon,Weds and Fri, Have to take every day, The vit D, I have to take every day for 2 weeks then every month, I think that's what Hubby said anyway and start taking the statin?? I think, Well I hope I can change this around by tidying up my diet, Can't do any more damage,

Thank you for your reply

Well unless that receptionist is a qualified clinician in her spare time she isn’t qualified to make those recommendations .Of course your doctor may have made notes on that form…but I certainly wouldn’t up my FA, Vit D or just go out & buy Statins until after you see your GP on 19Feb. Hopefully you will then get the exact doses you need & a prescription for the right Statin for you.

Good Luck!

Thank you for your reply AgedCrone, My Hubby was telling me after getting off the phone to Reception, More tablets to add to the dosset box delivered from the chemist, They did this before, Meds delivered 3 more tabs appear, I shall just have to start behaving myself and do whatever's required,

Take care

Debs

If I were you….l’d make a note of what you understand you need. & take it with you when you see your doctor.

Ask for a prescription for the FA & the Vit D, and ask for his or her recommendation as to which Statin you should take.

Hope you get what you need.

sometimes folic acid can be used to increase red blood cells, also to help the brain function better, low vitamin D, a lot of us have that, mine is always low, as I can’t get out much.

I hop this helps a bit.

Yes thank you Blue-52,

I don't know why all this talk about going outside seems to be so important either??

At the moment I'm just thinking, My Bedroom is my safe zone, I can hear what's going on outside, Thank goodness I can't see what's going on, I can hear the little darlings when they are going to and from school, Indoors I can fall asleep when I want, Stroke my furry ones when I want, Not feeling like I'm in danger from anyone, Craft time and the more worrying 1 would be If I'm on the path anywhere and someone is walking towards me, I can cross the road out of the way,

It's all a bit KaKa out there so I'm here in my warm and cosy bed NOT worrying about would could or might happen out in the big bad world that is outside

I have to take at least Diazepam before I can attend any appointments, Otherwise my anxiety kicks in and then full on panic attack,

I get the conciept (sorry can't spell) I just don't like it, We worked it out earlier, I have not been able to even think of going out without Hubby for around 6 years, so I get the lack of vit D is caused by me having the notion of something bad happening🙁

I get the going out bit, I am getting a tad like it, haven’t been anywhere without my hubs in years, but I have learnt from my online pain management professor, how to try and keep my anx under control, I actually went to the dentist two weeks ago, normally I’m a jibberinh wreck, but some how using his tools, I got through it.

Vitamin Dis quite important, I have borderline peri, and it turns out I also have borderline osteoporosis, so im also prone to falling, and have a fractured forehead, cheek, and a plate in my elbow, because my bones have become so weak, if you can, hold your arms out to the light, either garden or window for around 10 minutes each day, you don’t want to end up like me.

I generally sit by a window, as I can’t go into my garden alone, and just keep my arms in my lap, I don’t usually last 10 mins mind.

Do you have a garden you can access, we normally make most of our Vitamin D from sunlight, obviously far more in summer than winter.

There's not a huge amount in food so we do either need to get it from exposure outdoors or from supplements. I understand your reluctance to go out but is there a garden or outdoor area you feel comfortable using?

This explains why trying to get out in the sunshine for at least 20 minutes a day ..not wearing any SPF cream ………

UV exposure is the primary method of boosting serum vitamin D levels, which accounts for numerous health benefits. Higher levels of vitamin D are associated with protection against cancer development, including melanoma. Latitude, season, skin color, and sun protection determine UV absorption and vitamin D production.

Vitamin D is actually not a true vitamin but a hormone, very important for immune, bones and teeth health. As well as general health. Being low can make you feel rough, aches and pains are very common with low Vit D. I used to get a monthly megadose on prescription but then the NHS cut back and I buy my own.

I get Vitamin D3, the most easily absorbed form along with vitamin K2. Taking it combined with K2 which you can buy online, means the Vitamin D gets deposited in your teeth and bones where you want it, not in your arteries where you dont.

Folic acid deficiency can also make you feel tired so its important to keep levels up.

Hi Debs

Vitamin D apart from sunshine etc, certain foods contain it... so check out which ones, I take vit d3 daily as I'm not out a lot. Cholesterol is very important, often diet related & drinking etc. It's something you really need to keep low. Your GP should go through things and may refer you to a dietician.

Thank you saj01 for your reply,I don't drink any alchol(sorry can't spell) The last time I had a cigarette was Oct 2015, I am chuffed with that because I used to smoke between 30-40 cigs when I was working, Regret big time,

Hi Debs... well done you with the smoking.... I used to smoke too but gave it up . When I thought about all the money I wasted over years... I must have been mad.... plus the damage it does to our health. It may be a making a few changes to your diet might be the right way to go... it's certainly worth getting checked over.

Take care x
