I have fibromyalgia and also a continously twisting C1/C2 vertabrae that causes sore neck and migraines. This means 98% of the time I have to sleep on my back.
However, I also have severe hypermobilty of all my joints. Including my hips, knees, ankles, spinal vertabrae etc, so when I lay on my back to sleep or get treatments, my joints flop/fall to a very un-natrual angle, past where average human body goes. this in turn hurts alot and triggers fibro in the areas- muscle stiffness, referral pain up and down leg and back etc.
So far I have tried different pillows under my legs, tried sleeping upside down and legs jammed against a wall corner and barracading legs with pillows and other things.
Not really working so far. I/m wondering if you have tried or seen different things around that might help me.
Thanks for you time!!

I have Classic like EDS so I have to use aids to sleep to stop me popping out joints or ribs in the night.I don't sleep much because I have insomnia, not helped by the Tachycardia I have from Chronic Dysautonomia ( I know I am a wreck!!😆😆😆). I have learnt from the sleep clinic it's important to relax and get body rest even if I'm not actually asleep as this does help reduce the pain during the day.
I have a giant u shaped pillow , it's the 6ft version , which I call my " boyfriend pillow" . That allows me to sleep cushioned within it or lift my legs and arms on top of it for security and comfort.
I also have the bottom end of the bed raised slightly and I have a graduated pillow under my boyfriend pillow at head and shoulder level to keep my chest and shoulders raised and improve my breathing .
Finally , I have a micro bead neck pillow on top of the boyfriend pillow which I put my neck into and can then lie my head on for support or comfort , especially when I have head or Migraine pain.
When my joints are particularly loose or I've had an injury I wear light compression leggings which reach over the ankles and a soft bra and light compression top to reduce the chance of joints slipping out without reducing my comfort or reducing my muscle strength.
Hope that helps and you find what will work for you , take care , Bee
Hi, Expect you have tried this but I have a cushion which I use to either put between my legs, or just one leg (whichever is hurting most at the time. It is so hard to get off to sleep isn't it? Sometimes I am still awake for hours after I go to bed. My legs are very twitchy and have a mind of their own. I do find that a couple of paracetamols help at bedtime and also relaxing techniques which start from your feet. Hoping you find some way to relax and get some much needed sleep.
