Had to get doctors letter for work insurance due to been off work since April ,been in same job 28 years . Finally got appointment to discuss letter ,was new doctor never seen before was very uncomfortable appointment he was dismissive and very abrupt.when I received letter I was shocked and upset how it was written and dismissive of Fibromyalgia .i have decided not to pursue the insurance which would have given 75%of my wages for 2 years I feel totally let down by my doctors the letter was terrible it made me feel dreadful .i have put in a complaint to surgery but not expecting any response.

So sorry to hear of your experience with a GP. GP is just that,a General Practitioner. Do you have a Rheumatologist or other department or could you be referred.
Do you have another GP at your practice that you have seen before that you feel more comfortable with.
Feeling ( and indeed being) dismissed is so frequent with fibro. I had a letter of diagnosis from my Rheumatology department. I did not have insurance myself, it might be worth pursuing. One GPs ignorance stands to make a big difference to you.

Hey there Thorethorp don't give up so easily. I have also been off work and claimed through work income protection insurance. If you have a benefit package with your employer it's likely it also covers health insurance. If it's a stand alone policy it's worth following up and paying to go private. Ask your GP for a referral to a Rheumatologist, don't be railroaded. There are some stipulations with Income protection and of course they won't make it easy. Let me know if you have any questions..
