Hoover help needed!

Gulfstream_Maggie profile image

I know this may not appear fibro related but I'm contemplating buying a new hoover.

I'm looking to all my friends and fellow survivors here to suggest/recommend something that is easy to manage.

There are so many things to consider and it's an expensive mistake to make if you don't get it right.

So please throw some suggestions my way along with a reason for yourchoice, and helpmewithmy dilemma.

Thanks in advance ☺️

Good morning, I did quite a bit of research 9 years ago when I bought a new vacuum cleaner. My old one was heavy and cumbersome, I needed something much lighter. In the end I opted for a Dyson cordless V6. It is very lightweight and is easy to move around with no lead to get tangled up in. I live in a 2 bedroom flat, so wasn't bothered by the length of time it holds it's charge. Also you can take the tube off and it becomes a hand-held cleaner. It also has a couple of attachments, so all in all it's just what I needed and is still going strong today. It was also on offer at the time, price is also a factor to consider.

Of course there are newer models now, and lots of choice out there, so for me the factors to consider are weight, easy to move around, and price. If you live in a bigger house you may want to consider how long it will work on a full charge.

Good luck in finding a vacuum cleaner that suits you, and I hope you have a good day.

I bought a Robot hoover ! It was an Eufy one for about £200. It's brilliant as long as the floor is clear of larger objects and wires, totally love it and our house gets hoovered everyday without lifting a finger! well except to empty it or move it upstairs sometimes

Hi I swear by my Gtech, they are light, easy to manage, easy to clean and cordless. You can also adjust the handle for stairs etc. Wait until they have some deals on though or pick one up from Facebook market place for around £100. Here is a link to their website.

I have the handheld one too for small jobs, has lots of tools with it.

You are looking at around £229.

we got a g tec 22 floor sweeper to do the cat litter on the carpet, it works ok, there is a need to put the head back on floor, the handle back and forth is a micro too tight so sticks at an angle if push to far. it works well on carpet, hard floors not so sure. as its battery powered it actually lasts very well, the container seems to fill itself every day, which makes wonder if the vacuum was working right.

the point is we use this g tec sweeper everyday and only need to use the corded upright dyson 24 vacuum once a fort night now. which saves increasing leccy bill.

Am not to sure of stick vacuums to me they seem to need propping when parking in a hurry and that's a danger to the furrs. If could happen it will happen.

been watching qvc dyson shows and idw tower vaccum show,

there was a show other week that vacuum needed a bag!, it was a pink henrietta.

what ever decide on consider parts availability

I’ve bought a Dyson V11 and it’s so light and good suction too. Expensive but worth it

I recommend paying someone to hoover for you lol - joking aside any cordless Dyson is the best but rather expensive. Cordless shark hoover also great and cheaper and generally any new hoover is always better than the old one lol best of luck 🙂

I'm looking at a robot for general cleaning, but currently have had a Dyson Animal V8 (or maybe V7 - not sure), for about 7 years. Has had a replacement battery but the run time is about 1/2 of my 4 bed house - which is enough for me physically too, so I have a cuppa and a rest whilst it recharges! The Motorhead part is beginning to give up so I'm looking to replace that from eBay for about £25. I also have the small stairs/car motorhead which is brilliant for spot cleaning and I don't find the weight of it too difficult on my wrists either. Expensive initially, but because there are so many out there, very easy to get parts for.

Hiya Maggie,

I have owned various upright Dyson vacuum cleaners n found them heavy. I didn’t like the stick ones either. They cost a lot too. Recently I bought a shark steam mop with removable handheld n am so impressed. Makes cleaning floors, worktops, sink etc so easy! I will be buying a Shark corded vacuum cleaner which also has a handheld bit too. I love the fact it can slide right under the bed for me lol! I won’t buy a stick one as they need charging. Plus they are cheaper. Good luck in finding the right one for u 😊🤗

I bought a Gtech k9 2 years ago got an offer for £100 off, it really made a difference I was struggling with our plug in Vac. I love the Gtech so lightweight has light in front, easy to empty and clean , easily available spare parts, although I've only needed a freshener cartridges, great customer service given me back some independence 🦋💜

Shark Flexi stick corded one for me, find it too difficult if I have to keep pressure on a hoover to keep it on rather than a simple on and off so I've always steered clear of Dyson

bought a Dyson from curry's, hand held, lightweight, easy to use, in the sale so not too expensive, runs about 30-40 mins, threw away the old heavy one next day, hoovering has gone from being a drudge, to a pleasure!

I have an Aldi robot vacuum that I use for laminate and tiled floors, prior to going over them with a steam mop. It was good value compared to the branded ones and was available online only at the time. I use a cordless vac from Morphy Richards for cleaning up crumbs around tables etc in-between full cleans. For carpets I use a Hoover cordless vac, similar to Dyson but far lower in price.

I have a shark anti hair wrap as my hair gets everywhere, its still heavy ish but doesn't half suck the heck out of your carpet but it does detetch easily so I go round the house looking like a ghost buster which is much easier

I have a corded shark since i have a husky and wouldn't change it! It detatches from the wheels if it's easier for you to carry but I find it really lightweight. The main thing I like it for is the long handle attachment which means I can go around sooking up dust bunnies from the floor without having to bend then I can use my deebot robot hoover which is great as it can turn into a mop also. I do also have a shark steam mop for the bigger messes. Good luck and gentle hugs.
