Hi all, I’m new to the group even though I have been diagnosed with FM for around 15 years. I’ve come to a point where I’m in pain everyday, tired constantly and suffering from depression. I have always worked but the last three years I have had a lot of time off and now they are taking disciplinary action. This has made my depression and FM even worse. The GP has said that there is no further treatment other than more pain medication and a healthy lifestyle. I saw a consultant, a physio and had some CBT therapy when I was first diagnosed but nothing since. The GP said there was no point in referring me back to the consultant as they will just refer me back to him. It looks likely I will lose my job and I’m just about at the end of my rope.

Hi and a warm welcome to the forums. You can find general information on fibromyalgia at our website fmauk.org and our patient information booklets at fmauk.org/publications

You don't say what type of consultant you saw when first diagnosed, but if that was 15 years ago then there may be services you can access that were not available then - for example, majority of pain clinics now offer pain management courses

Hi

there is a phrase about being assessed and reasonable amendment, brain will not work at moment for right phrase to search.

has any changes happened like a more comfortable seat or table height. am assuming have a seated job,

although you may be a electric pylon painter, so would need battery power heated clothing to keep warm, a winch to aid going up rather than ropes ect.ect..

Is there anything they could do to help you?

am sorry feeling so low, stress and cold are not great for fibro, and the hopelessness of it,

however positive thinking does help, if able, some creativity for yourself to enjoy on the rougher days.

what are you doing today, this morning the sewing channel is on, or the crafting channel, there is Christmas movies somewhere in the 5's

its important to keep warm rest often and keep as flexible as possible, even if wiggling toes it's still a bonus to your day.

throwing yourself to doing a lot of tasks at once and in one day will wear out and hurt more,

pacing is important, spoon theory.

welcome

Traditional Chinese 5 element acupuncture. Ask around for who's good and properly trained. Not a physio as theirs is a different approach. Local healthfood shops usually have cards up and hear about who is good - maybe someone from a neighbouring town. Some friends may have tried it. Don't be put off if negative. The healing from it is an up and down process but it will put you on the side of being able to cope and conditions can be treated as they manifest - as they will. You've done well to keep going this long. Things can improve. x

I have fibromyalgia and was sent to physio, the physiotherapist said with advice of the rheumatologist & muscular pain clinic that they didn’t think it would be beneficial in the end, they gave me a sheet of moves to do , but only if I could & they referred me for acupuncture , now I’ve only been for one session so far, I’ve another on Friday but I can honestly say my first one was amazing it relaxed me ,took pain away for a good considerable amount of hours, it made parts of me warm , it was so relaxing and that eve I slept better than I have in ages
