I take 5HTP for sleep mainly. Since I've been taking it, about 3 weeks I've certainly felt better in myself. Happier, more energy, calmer. Now that might be because I'm sleeping better.

I'm not making any claims for the serotonin boosting effects of 5HTP but I intend keeping on it. I'm intolerant to Amytriptyline, Duloxetine etc so finding a natural alternative has been great for me.

I remember you said you'd been prescribed Antidepressants in an earlier post. If you're taking them please dont take 5HTP as well. Although a natural remedy they can cause high sertonin levels which being on Anti D's will exacerbate and you can end up with Serotonin Syndrome which is dangerous and can require medical attention.

hi I am not taking the anti depressants, I felt I was not ready to take it I wanted to find alternatives so I might try the htp do you take it everyday and have you had any side effects or better sleep which is always a good thing x 😊 ❀️

No side effects. I'm using a sleep supplement from High St store Savers which contains sour cherry extract, magnesium and chamomile, plus 5HTP. I tried one tablet but it wasn't enough so I take 2 in the evening.

I take duloxetine and Nortrityline with 5HTP. Are you saying I shouldn't be mixing them?

I think the rule of thumb is if you're taking Anti D's then dont take 5HTP. However sometimes we take low doses for Fibro, much lower than prescribed for depression. For pain relief sleep etc. I would double check with your doctor or pharmacist. Just to be on the safe side.

OK thank you πŸ˜„

I’d be interested about 5HTP too. I started a supplement stack a couple of months ago but considering adding in 5HTP.

I’m currently taking collagen, boswellia, devils claw, zinc and vitamin D&K.

Whilst I have noticed my nails are much better and I feel more alert (most of the time) I think 5HTP might be a good addition - more so if people recommend! 😊

I also suffer from really severe fatigue. I have a drug called Modafinil for it which is prescription only but it certainly helps to make you feel more awake at to be able to concentrate more

I haven't noticed any real side effects apart from dry mouth so I drink more. To be honest I don't have any problems sleeping at all. My problem is with waking up. I could sleep for England!

As a nutritionist although b12 adn vitamin d are good they must be of quality and from a good sauce, Complex versions are known as activated so they absorbe better. With out knowing you medical history it is hard to say. However, it migt be worth looking into adding zinc and magnesium to aid absorbsion.

I suffer with the fatigue quite a lot and although supplements take the edge off some times I am struggeling to find a good way around the situation. I am doing some research in to using oxygen supplementation along with a vasodylator as on paper by opening up the vains and arterys more oxygen and nutrients can be caried around the body. I am in talks with my GP to maybe start me on this as nothing else is helping much. As this is not a normal fibro treatment it is taking a lot of discussions, however it looks like this might be on the horizon for me.

I do hope that you feel better soon though

hi fibro girl I take 5HTP I’ve taken it on and off for a few years now if you take an antidepressant you have to inform your doctor, I also take magnesium, b,c,d vitamins all have helped me with fatigue and better sleep, wish you well good luck

seeing the other comments I take 60mg of duloxetin which really helped but after about 18 months my mood was very low so rather than up the dose I went back on 5HTP i know the dangers of serotonin overdose so I only take one, I think after researching it you have to take very high doses of antids for this to happen
