Ear ache

Gulfstream_Maggie profile image

I was wondering if anyone else had a sudden onset of shooting pains in their jaw area terminating at their ear. It's sent me mad today at work but I'm not sure if it's just ear ache or fibro related.

Hi MaggieHave you been to the dentist recently?

Dental issues can create referred pains.

Hope it does down soon

Gentle hugs

Hi I have had pain in my jaw since being diagnosed with fibro and it radiates into my ear it's painful as hell, the doc said its TMJ which is another thing that is related to fibro.

yes!! Horrible isn’t it.

I get it on my left side only. Awful pain spreading through my jaw, my ear and up into my temple. TMJ is what I’ve been told it is. I take pain killers and use a heated wheat pack on it, it does soothe the pain a bit.

I feel your pain!! Hope it eases soon.

sorry, Temporomandibular joint disorder? Or more likely Trigeminal neuralgia. Both pretty unpleasant!!!

Hi in reply to both Maggie and Julie. Trigeminal Neuralgia in me anyway seems to orinate just behind your ear and travel down your jaw affecting your teeth and causing an incredible amount of pain. I have been told that basically your brain is sending messages and your pathways are broken so it just keeps re firing all the time. Nerve pain. I have been diagnosed with fibro and tmj. Gentle exercise and mindfulness/slow breathing can help a lot. When im in a major flare i can barely move nevermind exercise but the keeping active has helped me personally. Good luck with it all :)

Is it just one sided?

If you have untreated filling or similar, it could be the Trigeminal nerve acting up.

Have a word with your Dentist.
