Depending on where you are, and what's available this could mean anything from group activities, art, walking, gardening clubs, swimming or exercise classes to CBT. Anything non clinical would fall into social prescribing. Do let us know what you are offered as this seems to be gaining in popularity with GPs.

Hi Jeskin , I haven’t been to the one at our surgery, but I’ve been told they are very helpful. They are called Health Connectors, and they have done appropriate training. A lot of surgeries are using them now.

What they do is, they have a chat with you about your health, and they might ask do you feel if there is anything in particular that might help you manage your health problems. For example, you might want to lose weight, or go to an exercise class, or join a support group. They can help you by giving you information about what is available in your area to help people manage their health better. Also they can give you advice on any help you may be able to get by referring you to Citizens Advice. This all helps the doctor by freeing up their time. The Health Connector will report back to your GP .

Hope it works well for you.

GP. 😊😊

Hi i'm in scotland so don't know if its diffrent else where. I was referred to social prescriber and what happened with me due to my depression and anxiety i got 6 sessions with peer support. She was lovely and had been through so much herself, it allowed me to express how i feel with illness etc...lots of tears, but sadly after 6 sessions that was it. I am now seeing psychology, which really helps.

I really hope it helps, but don't let it worry you if it doesn't - CBT isn't for everyone. Now if they had offered me gardening, or art, or walking, those might have suited me better. Best wishes
