Is it possible that the rash around the corners of my mouth and nose is connected to PMR?

I’ve had it for about 2 years - approximately the same period as PMR, but the various GPs I’ve complained to have not made the association. Rosacea was ruled out. But they have prescribed Daktacort ( for possible angular cheilitis) , Aciclovir in both cream and tablet form, Betnovate and most recently Fluticasone ( for the last 6 weeks). None of these treatments have had any positive effect.

Finally a nurse agreed to refer me to a dermatologist which she predicts will happen in about 1 year.

The rash looks quite inflamed and although not debilitating I am self conscious about it as it competes with the wrinkles.

Many thanks in anticipation,

Ann

I am wondering if an arthritis forum or even better a PMR forum may be able to shed light on this as most people will not have experience of PMR here.

wondering if you have posted in the correct forum.

Hi, has your gp ruled out vitamin deficiencies? My daughter gets rashes around her nose and corners of her mouth when her vitamin b is low. Just something else to consider/rule out! Xx

Thanks Bertie but the GPs only prescribe chemicals - over the phone of course!

I get that, but it could be a reason for the rash!

I agree ! I’ll try to persuade them to give me a blood test! It’s so annoying sometimes because in these rural practices it’s a case of which individuals benefit from GP attention

Peri-oral dermatitis? Try azelaic acid, worked for me, The Ordinary do a good inexpensive version.

Hi Annie, this rash you describe is often a symptom of b12 deficiency, would recommend you ask to have it checked. If it’s low you’ll need a course of injections to boost it and a test called intrinsic factor to see if you are absorbing b12 from your food. Clem
