Hi and sorry you are feeling like this. You say you have just started gabapentin and this does take a bit of time to build up and work but is not for everyone. It can take a couple of weeks.
Hello , I see desquinn has already put a good reply to you with some links and I hope this helps, medication can take awhile to kick in but differently pick up the phone and ask for a call back from your doctor or even practice nurse if doc is busy some reassurance and a listening ear does help, a lot of surgeries I hear are still doing call backs to speak to patients, I have found this helpful since Covid, constant pain is horrid and I still find a warm soak in the bath so helpful my lower back ,neck, shoulders always seem to ache the most, we were without a bath for over a month and having to shower didn’t cut it for was so grateful when new bath went in to relax my muscles, have you tried Epsom’s salts ? Sometimes the only way I can get comfy is lots of pillows , my hot water bottles and wheat bag for neck, does warmth help at all ? That’s my way of getting some relief. I am glad you have a good family , even to give us a cuddle , be a listening ear, a gentle cuddle xx
No I have not tried them yet , I’ve tried the radox different ones, Westlab have different scents too, I do love the lavender oil you can drop in the bath from H and B .
Just tried the Tisserand brand of Epsom’s, amazing they are the company that do essentials oils etc, must find some more to buy as these were a gift, in need of some today had my booster yesterday and today I’m completely tired out , all done so that’s good.x
As others have said, I find a wheat bag a temporary relief. I paid for a few physio sessions and they have me helpful exercises. Finding the right pillow to sleep on has helped me as well. I also started yoga and could actually hear my body releasing tension. I can’t believe how helpful yoga is.
I have an infra red heat lamp which I have had for about 30 years. You can still get them. Just switch it on and sit in front of it as close as you like. I then get hubby to give me a massage around my neck and shoulders with tiger balm. He is useless but it still helps 😂. Do this a couple of times a day and hopefully you will get relief. Also try and keep your neck moving by gently moving it ear to shoulder and chin to chest. Don’t let it seize up.
I know exactly how you feel, I have the same issue and also prescribed Sertraline and for me Pregablin. I think this is similar to Gabapentin. However I was told when prescribed Pregablin that I could no longer take Cocodamol. I really miss it when the pain is particularly bad. Has anyone else received any advice re combination of Pregablin/ Gabapentin and Cocodamol ?
Hi there.I pop in and out of this site and i have to say that the support on here is brilliant😊😊
I am glad i popped on today after seeing your comment about Pregabalin/Gabapentin and Co codamol.
In my experience (although not a doctor) personally, i have never been told to stop taking Cocodamol with my other medications.
I take Pregabalin amongst many others as well as Cocodamol.
I have been taking medications for years at specific doses as well as pain meds.
I would
1. Check again with GP, Hospital or Pharmacist they are the professionals after all
2. Source this combination on the slips that come with all these medications as they give you the warnings of contradictions medications.
For many years to help with my pain also i use a TENS machine that was recommended by Pain Clinic at the hospital. I have had mine for decades, so when my pain is unbearable like sounds like yours is i use that.
It is completely natural therapy that gets your endorphins (natural pain killers in you body) focused on that/those particular spots on your body.
I hope i have managed to ease your mind with this help as its very hard on your day to day health.
Hello, my fibro pain stems from my left side of jaw and radiates out in my neck, head, shoulders and ribs. It is constant but sometimes it is so bad that it makes me feel rather down. I think it's my pig headedness that keeps me going on those days; plus, you've only got one life to live. I'm 58 and 4 years into the menopause which has not helped with the pain - those drasted hormones!!! I have monthly acupuncture, Chinese herbs, take nightly paracetamol (was on amitriptylene - awful) and I'm on a fairly strict diet (no gluten, restricted sugar, no dairy, no alcohol, no caffeine) and I muddle on. If I didn't do this I'm sure I'd be in a psychiatric ward by now:(. Try different things to see what works for you and take care. Please don't give in to this
Hi, you have my sympathy, l too have had the throbbing pain in all the same areas as you, l don’t have any solutions for you, but l know how this can get you down, it is so hard to cope with, l tried yoga for a little while and that did help a little. I also do meditation.
Hi Lisastaley,I'm so sorry you're in so much pain. What has worked for me in these situations is to try to keep my mind busy with other things as much as I can. Also, you could try to buy an electrical massager online. Amazon has some very cheap and efficient ones.
Have you ever considered gentle spinal manipulation? I mean by someone trained as McTimoney chiropractor…very gentle, but amazing difference to everything in, or attached to, spine ie neck, shoulders, shoulder blade, ribs, hips… I’ve had chronic spine problems for nearly 40 years, fibromyalgia diagnosis more like 7; pain killers (cocodamol and amitriptyline) take the edge off pain to try to get to sleep, but it’s the manipulation that helps really. When bad I go fortnightly, leading up to MOT 6-8 weekly. Manipulation, along with years of learning what not to do ( eg angle of head/neck when peeling/chopping veg.etc) stops my neck/shoulder muscles tensing up to rock hard which caused so much pain ( and fits)…may be worth a go.
