Sleep Apnoea

Hi all

I have sleep apnoea for 2-3 years or so. At papworth, they gave me a facemask getup thing to wear every night when I go to bed.

To be fair, it never really did anything for me, so I stopped using it after 5 months or so. earlier this year I get a message saying something along the lines of "there is an issue with your equipment". Some weeks later I get a text asking if "I have an alternative mask" or whatever.

Several months after, I get another message saying that my 'kit' is faulty.

To cut a long story short, has anyone else here had these issues?

Thanks.

Sleep apnea is a very common disorder, up to 15% of the generally population have it. It is not a part of fibromyalgia nor is fibromyalgia a known risk factor for it. The established risk factors are obesity, smoking, asthma..Etc. The reason it is important to treat it is because we already have bad fatigue from fibromyalsia which is not always treatable. If we get additional sleep disorder like sleep apnea, our body can't get the rest it needs to get better. Treatments for sleep apnea especially Obstructive Sleep Apnea are generally effective, and help you gain quality of sleep and rest immediately. Glad you have a team helping you fitting the best equipment. Please keep.trying it.

Sleep apnea can be a part of fibromyalgia , if you still have problems go back to the doctor .

Sleep Apnoea is recognised as a condition that can shorten your life. It is very important to persevere with the mask and the machine. It reports back electronically, data to the hospital on its use and how many apnoea episodes it has identified. That is why you are getting text messages. The machines and mask cost as much as £750, so if you are certain you do not want to use it, give it back to the NHS so it can be allocated to someone who is waiting for one.

You’re being told by the notices that your equipment is and has been faulty. That could be the reason you feel like you didn’t benefit from the machine. Do what you need to get another machine and give it another go. 😊

I used to have apnoea but I refused the CPAP because it can make your allergies worse apparently and as I already struggle with them, I thought no thank you, I apparently ended up curing myself by loosing weight. As others have said, if you're still struggling with it, please speak to a GP about it. Sleep apnoea was scary for me, my previous dog (bless him) stopped me from choking twice, wasn't even trained to do so, he just seemed to know what to do. I have problems with choking still when I sleep but I believe this is a combination of reflux and allergies, I also have swallowing problems which causes me to cough up my food because it gets lodged.
