Flare up help

ā€¢8 Replies

Hi, first post šŸ˜€

I have recently been told I most probably have fibromyalgia, so I'm new to the world of fibromyalgia but I've been having these symptoms for a long time. They have just got worse in the last year.

I am currently having what I'm guessing would be described as a flare up. I can't take medication further than paracetamol and I hate taking that too often. I cannot stop completely as I have youngish children and a house to deal with.

So I have a question...

What are your go to things to help with flare ups, what do you do beyond resting that help keep flare ups as short as possible?

Thanks in advance!

see if certain foods set it off, generally its sugar or sweet substances, or wheat and/or gluten based foods, and dairy products. Carbs also turn into sugar in your body, so low carb organic diet advised. then try cutting out chemicals in everything, food, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, moisturiser, etc.

Thank you, we cut chemicals out years ago because they always gave me headaches and made me feel tired but I will have a look more into what I'm eating as well.

I was the same, had pains for years and then it became much worse. I have found that my flares are definitely connected to what I eat, sugar causes pain within hours and wheat within a day, a mainly plant based organic diet with some meat and fish have been the best for keeping the pain at bay. Magnesium malate in the morning and magnesium glycinate in the evening definitely helps with muscle pain along with curcumin and a few other supplements, I have also found that breathing oxygen under pressure in a hyperbaric chamber has helped with fatigue and brain fog to the point that it is not a problem any more, there are places all over the country (UK) that you can do this. if you are interested I can give you the details, and also of the supplements that I have found to be helpful.

If I overdo things..I pay for it by magnifying my pain in the following days..a few days of extra pain followed by a few days exhausted sleeping ..I'm 57 now..I can just about cope with the older grandchildren..but even then I struggle..I really feel for you having young children...take care

Thank you, I have a supportive husband thankfully and starting to take other offers for support from family.

Hiya hun Well thatā€™s normal drs not recognising the symptoms but saying that these symptoms cover so many different things!

I would like to welcome you to this site! Itā€™s brilliant! Itā€™s a good place to ask for advice because someone else has been through whatever problem you come across! Oh gosh Iā€™ve forgotten what your question!!

Ok got it now I donā€™t have flare ups itā€™s just constant pain! But I take Tramadol I know people say not to use it! Iā€™ve had so many painkillers before but never worked! Iā€™ve got three sons! So I totally agree with needing your head straight! How you going to react with problems with the family if your head isnā€™t alert?? Tramadol really stopped the pain I could sleep I could sort the bairns I could even climb a mountain ! I even got a cleaning job!! They made such a difference to my life they go on about side effects but theyā€™re not as bad as fibromyalgia pain! I would ask your GP!

Thank you, I have been back and got another type of medication now to try, I guess it's just try and try until you find something that works. Interesting that yours is just constant pain, mine is getting that way even though up until this year it felt more like flare ups, although we didnt know what it was, I just thought I got the flu alot. Thanks again.

Youā€™re so welcome hun! Iā€™ve had this since I was a young girl and had to crawl to the bus stop for school! Then they said it was growing pain! Still get the pain and Iā€™m now 61yrs old and only grew to 5ā€™2ā€ so Iā€™ve taken more types of pain killers in that time Anadin when I was 11 then prescribed painkillers when I was being treated for rheumatoid arthritis! I also have 3 sons so I think I can see in you my life! Itā€™s good to hear your GP has given you something else to help but if they donā€™t help go back there are so many pain killers out there that donā€™t pickle your brain! If you need any advice or anything I can help you with just ask! And I mean that any time of day or night( those times can be the worst) just message me on this site!!
