Hi there, welcome to our group. I am sure we can all empathise with having small children to care for when we are struggling with fibro. I remember having 2 under the age of three. But that was way back in the day.

You say you have just been diagnosed. What help or information was you given at the time may I ask? Did your GP diagnose you or did you get the usual round of tests to eliminate any other would be problems first?

Sorry for all the questions. But sometime a little more information can often help members to offer their own personal experience and say what as worked for them and what didn't.

If you go to our search box the one with the looking glass icon at the top of your post. Try adding in something like fibromyalgia pain. It will then bring up topics our members have posted replies to.

This is one of the more recent links I found that may help you to get started. I hope it helps.

hi Kim, sorry to hear that you are struggling so much. My fibro started after the birth of my daughter - and even though she is now an adult, I still remember back to how difficult it was at times managing with her. Do you have a partner/family support to help with her -I know that was what helped me to cope and allowed me to focus on myself at times.

Pain wise - it can be trial and error finding what works for you and what doesn't. Have you been offered any medications to try and control the pain? Usually low dose antidepressants such as amitripytline are offered first, duloxetine is another one which is commonly used for fibromyalgia. Gabapentinoids (gabapentin or pregabalin) can help with nerve pain and are also prescribed. Strong opiods are generally not recommended for chronic pain, as they work better on acute pain - although a combination of tramadol & paracetamol is often used.

However, it is important to remember that medication does not work for everyone and even when it does help, it may only take the edge off not take the pain away.

Non-medication that may help is pacing, listening to your body, resting when you can (although i appreciate not always possible with a wee one), mindfulness, meditation, complementary therapies, distraction, heat, cold, muscle rubs etc
