I have terrible trouble sleeping on my old mattress . Awake all night in pain and awful backache. Any recommendations? I’m so desperate.
Silent-night ‘natural’ one. Also have a goose down topper (M&S). Only buy if you have someone to help you turn it.
an involved topic that comes up from time to time and provokes discussion. Searching will find some previous posts but this article may help - fmauk.org/latest-news-mainm...
I bought a single size Emma memory foam mattress. Much better than my hard sprung one
I have terrible trouble getting to sleep due to pain in lower back n right hip.I am on my second mattress. Both cost over £500 so I must persevere.the old one which is about month old it back in its wrapping in hallway taking up space.I feel bad 😔 every time I pass it.Doesn’t matter what kind I try it doesn’t help.
hopefully ou managed to obtain your old one on a trial and can return. This is one of the "pearls" from our article on the subject due to the different requirements of people.
"Test First with a Sleep Trial
Everyone is different and has varying sleeping preferences. To make sure you choose the right mattress model for you, you may wish to consider buying from a company who offer a sleep trial and your money back if the mattress turns out not to be suitable for you. "
I sleep in a chair, been in it for years. Back to the subject, I quite fancy having a go at one of those Dormeo Octasmart mattresses advertised on the television. They look very comfortable its either that or the young lady in the advert is affecting my long dormant hormonal systems.
Before you buy a new mattress, try a feather/down mattress topper. I got mine mail order, I think from House of Bath, and love it. I am now much more comfortable. Having just had a hip replacement, it has made nights so much more comfortable.
It made such a difference when I bought my first memory foam mattress - a very cheap one. You have to stay away from springs. I thought by buying a hybrid mattress last year I would give the new type springs another chance but even my partner hated the bed and I ended up buying a memory foam topper for it. This has made it bearable but I wish I had just stuck with memory foam. I had the mattress for three months, thinking I needed to "get used to it" and by then it was too late to return it. I think getting a good night's sleep with as little pain as possible is the most important thing for anyone with FM. Also, I had physiotherapy from a myofascial therapist and that is brilliant.
I've slept much better since I bought a Simba mattress, not brilliantly but definitely better.
Hiya hun I got one of those pregnancy body pillows and it’s fantastic I can make it any shape that’s comfy and once I get it right I wake up after a few hours of good sleep! (I’m sure you know what I mean!) I’m the same comfy position! The one I got from Amazon my go to for every little fibromyalgia problem I have is shaped like a huge C and a very cheap alternative to a new mattress!! Oh and I can use on my chair or settee great for watching telly!
Yes it is true that the Emma mattress is hot - comfy but hot. I didn't have much money to spend on a mattress so that was the best solution. Sleep in just underwear with window open. Also 100 cotton bedding. Not perfect but an affordable and workable solution.
I can echo the benefits of using a feather mattress topper and a 'pregnancy' pillow as both have helped me a great deal in the past few years.Unfortunately, I'm at the stage now where I've bought an adjustable bed which is coming tomorrow, and I can't wait ! It is expensive at £2k, (super-king size) but it will help me enormously in getting in and out of bed as well as in getting a comfortable 'supported' position. I've chosen mattresses topped in memory foam, but as I've got 2 separate mattresses, my husband could choose a mattress to suit himself. And I suppose that if you're spending £500 per mattress for a 'normal' bed, it might actually end up the cheaper option in the long run ? I'll let you all know how I get on.
Hi. I have one of those Tempur adjustable beds as I had a back injury years ago. They are expensive but it is the only bed I can sleep in without being in immense pain in the night. I would never swap it for anything. The only issue I have now is if I lay in any other bed....I can barely sleep at all and have horrible back pain! I will say though that yes, it is hot as it moulds around you but I think they now do things like cloud mattresses which are meant to be cooler. I just use a sheet rather than blanket or duvet but I still get night sweats.....however that happens no matter where I sleep!
I would try the trial ones. I have a hybrid one from Otty and I love it. Its so comfy and I don't overheat like I have done with most other memory foam mattresses. The otty is quite firm but the simba is more of a medium firm. Definitely get a big U shaped body pillow. They are amazing or you could get one of the weighted blankets. I haven't tried them yet but I intend to.
