Well my GP informed me today he's leaving the end of month I'm devastated, none of the others understand fibromyalgia like he does I could actually cry .......
He has given me anther diagnosis today to run along with my fibromyalgia.. ....
Meralgia paraesthesia described as a nerve disorder has anyone else been given this diagnosis xx
I have had meralgia paresthetica before. Physical therapy for low back pain and pelvic pt fixed it without the parasthetica being the reason for going to pt in the first place.
I’m sorry to hear you are experiencing this, the burning feeling and the loss of hard to find gp with a good ear and knowledge. Ask the gp for advice on who to see that they trust, and to see if the gp can get you organized with physical therapy and to ask what tests or direction the gp would go next before it’s to late to ask.
Been stuck in that position of losing a great gp just to be bounced around to dispassionate replacements. Finally I found a new gp that had fresh eyes and wanted to dig deeper and revisit old diagnoses that were wrong. That’s whom diagnosed me with the paresthetica and said the pt for the other things would work it out. Mine was intermittent so I drove pt nuts with all my questions with the why and the how.
There are good ones are out there, don’t lose hope.

Oh no you never over stepped thank you for your help I will do all you suggest. Also it's good to hear that someone else has had the same diagnosis as I'd never heard of it before. I do hope I can find and build a good relationship with another go 🤔😊
Yes i had 2 lovely doctors who under stood me, now they have left i do not have a good listening doctor. There should be more under standing this horrorable disease.

My daughter is a student paramedic in her final year and they actually have a whole section on fibromyalgia now. I was very impressed when she told me 🙂
I had meralgia parasthetica, which the GP said that it can be related to thyroid or diabetes, which it wasn't. I'm not trying to alarm you but thought it worth knowing.

Yes, I have Meralgia Paraesthetica on both sides since 1987. Surgery to decompress the RHS nerve in 1990 failed and 2 years later the LHS became compressed too. In case you don't know exactly what is happening, it is the Parasympathetic nerve getting caught in the Inguinal Ligament. It's quite common in pregnancy and resolves itself after the birth. Most cases resolve in time, those that don't can usually be sorted by surgery. Sadly for me this wasn't the case. The surgeon described my nerves and ligament as 'spaghetti junction' i.e. far too intertwined to operate on without causing further damage. I've lived with it ever since.
I fully understand how you feel about losing your GP. Mine retired at the end of March and I did nearly cry in front of him, I'd been with him for 20 years. He helped me so much with all my problems especially my Fibromyalgia. The whole practice of 3 doctors retired at the same time. A practice from the other side of Scotland took it over and I feel lost, scared and uncared for. My rock has gone and I have nowhere else to turn.
