Hi all

A quick question... I was prescribed Pregabalin a few years ago and my prev doctor would give me all my meds in 3 month batches... all good. I then moved counties and my new doctor will only give me Pregabalin in a monthly prescription. I've got a prepay prescript cert so money isnt the issue its just a complete b@llache having to juggle 1 month prescriptions with also now 2 monthly scripts for all the rest of my meds. I asked could i get more than a months worth and was told it was againt the law to give more than a month at once...... anyone know if this is true or am i just being fobbed off?

Cheers ♥️

It is because it is a controlled drug. They moved it to a class c drug.I get a box on my prescription and open it and chemist has cut strips in pieces so I only get what is allowed

Like Fra22-57 says, due to being a controlled drug they are only allowed to prescribe a month at a time. Im same, pregabalin I get one month, majority of meds I get 2 months and my Hrt I get 3 months at a time - so constantly having to check if I need to reorder anything

Pregalabin is a controlled drug in some countries and therefore is only prescribed on monthly prescriptions. I have been in this for 18 months and it does give some relief, I hope it helps you too!

As far as I know, as a controlled substance, that's absolutely right.

I'm only allowed my pregabalin in monthly batches and have also been told it is against the law to have more than a month's supply at once

well now i know the score i ll just have to plan my script requests and collections. Maybe worth trying something else? I ve been on Pregab prob nearly 8+ years? I lose track. Tried Gabapentin first but it did nothing. Pregab seems to put the lid on the pain also helps IBS issues... which i have had my whole life and have tried EVERYTHING....... all in the same boat eh just trying to get the balance of what works for each individual. I just wish i could fix the shear feeling of exhaustion. Never had the need to sleep during the day before... until couple years ago.... i feel like an 80year old at times. Fun eh

Hi, Our local surgery only supplies one month at a time and that's across the board. The only exception is if you are going away on holiday and will run out before you get back

Hi I am on Pregabalin and only get it month by month. I believe this is because it is a controlled substance.I am with Echo, a prescription delivery service and it's pretty good, they send reminders to order and even when to take them. The only problem I have had is when there has been a shortage of Pregabalin and I had to ration the last few I had. That was a nasty few days.

As others said they can prescribe once a month due to pregabalin being a controlled drug

Yes it’s true - it’s now classed as a controlled drug . Until recently I always had 2 months. Suddenly only one month with no explanation. Like you, I do get in a muddle when some tablets are 2 months and also seem to be sent from chemist on slightly different days. Also they are very strict about not being able to order next pregabalin before the exact date - ie about 3/4 days before I run out. It is very controlling and doesn’t credit anyone with the intelligence to order when ‘they’ see fit.

Hi.....my GP is the same I get my prescriptions at all different times through the month and I get very bad brain fog and forget that I have a week's supply left of 1 and 2 weeks of another....it confuses me. Its really annoying. I too questioned about having all my meds renewed together but was told no do I don't think you are being fobbed off.

I also can only get a month at a time. Morphine is worse, I reorder repeat prescription monthly but can only get a week at a time.Been like this for at least 5 years, in the beginning l would phone to complain every 6 months, alternating between doc and chemist. Eventually after about 3 years the pharmacist got fed up and told me the truth, it is down to the doctors practice (possibly guidance from local health authority). It's to gard(sp?) against you taking them all at once. I'm pretty sure if I took my weeks supply of 14 x 30mg zomorph, I'm not waking up the next morning 👻

As it is a controlled drug they are only allowed to issue this on a monthly basis. Other meds that are not controlled can be given over longer times
