Made for walking: running shoes recommendations?

Hi all, I hope this is okay to ask here.

I have fibromyalgia and barely leaving the house at the moment. But I would like to start walking regularly again. And who knows, on a good day even jog a little! I’d really appreciate some recommendations on running shoes that offer good support and grip to minimise pain and slips. I’m female, 40s and desperate to push the wall of my life out a little. Hints and tips very much recommended. Thank you 😊

not running at the moment but I do wear reeboks constantly that have memory foam insoles.

My memory foam insoles have been the best thing I put in my Nike Air trainers, makes walking the dog much more comfortable

Hiya,I have the same problem with fibromyalgia and my feet became very disabled and my podiatrist had to mold inserts for my shoes. I was also told of Vionic shoes which are designed specifically to cushion the arches and heals of feet. I eventually came out of my wheelchair and scooter to take a few steps. The pain was incredible but I persevered with my pain medication, cream and heat lamp and over the next two years I am much more able at times. I can really recommend them. They are expensive but if you buy out of season or sale items then you will never look back. They do a variety of trainers. I wear slippers , sandals, boots and shoes. I can’t wear anything else on my feet. Hope this helps x

Ive had Fibro & many other conditions for years & have tried many different shoes & I think if u can afford them Sketchers are the best u don’t know u have them on your feet, they are very soft also memory foam inside I couldn’t & wouldn’t wear anything else, but you have to try different types styles and brands that suit your feet we can only advise you on what suits our feet ok wishing you luck Cookie72 have lovely day xxxx

Is the pain in the whole foot or mainly at the forefoot/front. If it is forefoot have a look at shoes with a "forefoot rocker" not the mid foot ones as they could really challenge your balance. e.g some Fitflops and others they do relieve the ball of foot,

I decided to use lockdown to improve my fitness and even managed to complete the couch to 5k (NHS app).There's also a Facebook group that were really helpful and supportive.

My trainers were £16 from amazon and made a bit of a difference. I'll dig out the details

I wear nike really comfortable, my mum went to physio over her walking and they said said sketchers were best, she wears them an said they really help x

I also like Skechers or Hi Tec Penrith. Basically the memory foam helps and a flexible design that doesn't restrict natural foot movement. Be aware of the weight too, the lighter the better. New shoes always feel funny especially when we're ultra sensitive so wear them for short periods at home to break them in.I think it's better to go out regularly for a short time rather than one long walk, flare up and a setback. I suggest 5 minutes, see how your body reacts (if like mine could be 48 hours before a reaction) and build up from there. Good luck.

Hi I have the same issues with very painful feet and ankles , I recently bought cloud sliders from kuddly (who also do weighted blankets ) they are not for running but they are brilliant just for walking around , they are very cushioned and because they are slip ons they are great for going in and out of the garden . The relief on my pain is amazing when they are on .

Hi, I tend to wear Skechers most of the time, new ArchFit particularly good if you're prone to planter fasciitis, really good support & takes a lot of the pressure off your heels. Good Luck 🍀

Fit flops and sketchers are my shoes of choice. Used to wear flip flops all summer but can’t any more. My feet need to be contained in a shoe or a trainer now.The fit flops also seem to help with my backache because of the wobble board technology.

As luck would have I’ve had a flare up, which is why I’ve not been in touch, but looking forward to buying new trainers soon… thank you for all your fab, thoughtful suggestions to help improve quality of life.
