Hi, I’ve been on venlafaxine for about 15 years, I take 2 x 150mg in the morning and it keeps me on the straight and narrow, a rheumatologist tried to change it without contacting my mental health team and I had a terrible time without it but we are all different but it’s always worth a try I find 🥰

Venlafaxine is from the same family of drugs as Duloxetine - SNRI's. It is typically used for drug resistant depression, although like Duloxetine it can help with fibromyalgia pain too. The NHS usually use Duloxetine first, as it is available in generic form now, and that has reduced the cost over the branded product called Cymbalta. If Venlafaxine does not help with depression, it is likely that non-drug approaches will be needed. As with all anti-depressant drugs, never come off them by just stopping taking them. A gradual withdrawal over time is required, under the supervision of your Doctor.

I would be very wary of this drug. While it might be alright for some I ended up in hospital with seizures due to this drug. Obviously it is a personal choice.

Hya I don’t know where I would be without this drug my doctor has tried twice to swap to Duloxetine but it made me unable to walk and so very ill so I’m back with Venlafaxine and have been on it or 25 years.

Hi Flower47, I have been taking 225mg for a couple of years now and it has been wonderful. It has worked better than anything that has been tried in the past 16 years. I don't cry constantly and just feel so much less depressed. The only recommendation I have is don't miss a dose. Withdrawal is horrible. Good luck and I will be praying that it works as good for you.

Glad this drug has helped some but for me it was horrific .... I was ok at first and as the medication was increased my family kept saying I was been weird and I was getting annoyed and affended they couldn’t say I was getting better as I felt ... then I had double vision , slurrred speech where no one could Understand what I was saying lost memory every day or even after a few hours ,no one could understand my text I felt low kept crying to my family wouldn’t leave me on my own .. I’m. Now coming off them thank god which isn’t easy ....I would say to anyone trying this to be very carefull x x
