Fibromyalgia?

Hello, I have had OA in my spine and R toe for years since a car crash, and seem to be struggling more lately. Apart from the pain and stiffness & struggling to get up/walk which has got worse, sometimes having to crawl, I am tired out, sometimes my skin is sensitive so that it hurts, especially my head when I wash my hair, I get pain in a various places, my memory is quite frankly worrying me as I forget lots of things (recent, current and older), & my stomach has been playing up daily for a long while. I don't have a GP now, she left about a year or so ago, & I always felt she was not taking me seriously. I feel so much worse than I did a year ago, does this sound typical to anyone? It really feels like no one at the health centre even cares, my pip got reduced even though I'm now worse , mainly because my car is a manual not automatic. This really got me down knowing how I struggle, and that the pip people didnt believe me or minimised the effect it has on me so I just gave up even trying and didnt even bother to go the doctors any more. Is this a common reaction that people get from the gp or anyone similar? Could it be fibromyalgia? What should I do?I still work part time but find it's got harder to do so, my arms used to be ok now it even hurts to raise them to do my job.

Hello and welcome :) sorry to hear your struggling. You say you don't have a GP. Unfortunately with out seeing a doctor and explaining to them how you feel. I'm not sure where you would get a diagnoses for what ever is causing your health problems.

While it maybe fibro it could also be you OA getting worse and you may need medication to help you or if your taking medication it may need updating. Has I said Imo you really need to speak to a doctor. Ido hope you have a better experience with the new GP good luck x

Thank you, I can see a gp, I just dont have one of my own now since she left, we have a series of temporary ones. Maybe I will get a better response from a different one! I was on oxycodone daily for about 2 years, when they took me off them I really noticed all the pain. I have tramadol now.

Maybe you could discuss your medication and other pain therapy options with the GP. Sometimes I've found a change of doctors can be very helpful. If you still feel your not happy you can always ask to see other doctors in your surgery.

Some times it’s good to see a different/ locum GP.

THey can sometimes be more thorough.

Perhaps you could ring and have a phone consult.

Perhaps some of your symptoms could be helped a little. I hope things get better for you.

You would need to see a GP, who may be able to tell you whether your OA has got worse, or whether they think you may have fibromyalgia. None of us here are medically qualified, so we can't say for sure one way or another, and fibromyalgia does mimic a lot of other conditions. If you see or have a telephone consultant with a GP you could ask if they would refer you to a rheumatologist. They can then check all your symptoms and hopefully give you an answer. x

IMHO it sounds like trauma to me, maybe exacerbating existing conditions; do not underrate trauma to the body. In my training I was told that there is no split between brain and body (Descartes); it is all one.

Maybe try someone who does Body Realignment (as taught by Jan Trewartha); Ortho-bionomy; Positional Release; Myofascial Release, that sort of thing. Also, BoneWork taught by Sharon Wheeler and Jan Trewartha.
