The cause of Fibromyalgia

I lost both my parents in December 1996 within a few days of each other and a few weeks later my friend and business partner was diagnosed with cancer this was terminal and had to finish work, he died a few month later. This left me with a debt of £175,000 as I was the guarantor. In June 1997 the landlord took ill and died his wife wanted to sell the garage/MOT station which was sad but relieved me of my debt that I had fallen heavily in arrears with. I was disabled through an industrial accident in 1988 and my physical and mental health was now seriously being affected. In April 1998 my relationship after 6 years had broke down and this left me with nowhere to live I was sleeping on friends settee's for a few month's. I was struggling with pain, one being back pain through the spinal injuries I sustained in 1988 I'd already had 4 operations on and pain all over my body, which the Doctors said was due to my mental health. In 2002 I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

Hello , reading your post you have been through so much, I have heard people that have been anxious or upset and have lost loved ones have been diagnosed with fibro , it made me wonder as I had an extremely bad time few years back with stress through someone’s nastiness and was diagnosed soon after with fibro. Are you sorted with some where to live , that must have been very hard.

What you have written is very similar to what the NHS say about Causes of Fibromyalgia. nhs.uk/conditions/fibromyal...

My own fibromyalgia started after a major road accident and being made redundant, so I empathise with you. Major trauma and stress in our lives seems to overload the central nervous system and amplify pain on a permanent basis. We can only hope that one day the medical researchers find a way to reverse this. In the meantime the medics can only treat the symptoms.

Hi

When I was diagnosed over 20 odd years now there wasn’t much information about fibromyalgia. My husband found out about a place in Canada that was doing a study on it. They sold little books so my husband purchased me two . They explained a lot . How fibromyalgia is brought on through shock , car accidents, trauma even in some cases child birth . I found them helpful . Canada was the only place then that seemed to understand it. Doctors here apart from the consultant that diagnosed me ,kept telling me it was depression or stress . One doctor even told me it was early stages of shingles . Duloxatine might have good benefits but they certainly can make you put on weight easily. I was on 180 mg every night . I was going to SW had been for three years but the weight started to creep back . I gave up in the end I couldn’t understand the weight gain . When I was on 60 mg it wasn’t to bad. They were increased to 120 mg then I started getting a more fuzzy head . I was on 180mg then spoke to the pharmacist at the doctors surgery that told me the duloxotine are probably causing the problems. I’m cutting down slowly and now feel so much better. I couldn’t think straight or do anything I felt like a zombie . This went on for quite a long time. I was forever falling over. Medication can help but it can also give horrible side effects. I just have to put up with feeling sick in the morning sometimes all day but it’s nothing to how I did feel.
